I recently posted a link to a video produced by some Andrews University students about race relations at Andrews.

i found the student video and watched it with this one.  i am sure the staff is aware of the specific individuals and their experiences that resulted in the creation of this video.

i think each video is clear and well spoken.

i would like to see a third video of response to the changes and effective actions, and giving an evaluation of changes made.

when someone is hurt by another who is not aware of how they are bringing hurt... it takes much listening and sensitization to make a change that reaches and brings down the ongoing injury. 

it is not an easy matter.

No specifics were cited.  I wonder how much of it is real or imagined.  When I first went to PUC back in the late 50's, I had just come from the Philippines by way of Hawaii.  I was poor, not dressed like the others, and although there were many Asians in the school, I felt like a minority among minorities.  How much of my feelings of rejection and discrimination were real and how much were just my own imagination?  I've gone through the South in the late 50's and saw firsthand the discrimination and the indignities that blacks suffered.  But there is no denying that there is a world of difference between 1950's America than 2017 USA.  There is no question that when one has a hammer for a toy, the world looks like full of nails.  Hence the question - how much of this is real or just unfounded perception?

multicultural is a word for the opposite of racist.

i think there are all kinds and degrees of racism.  some say to not be a racist you have to be color blind, but but to  be culture blind is more challenging. to lose discrimination of different groups of people, is something no one can do without the grace of God.

there are groups that pose a present and real danger, as in active drug abusing gangs.  this sense of fear of "other" is a base for racism.  bigotry takes so many forms, it is not necessarily based in race alone.  and to identify your personal biases and how they can play out in seeing anyone as being less, because of advantages you have and they do not have can be subtle and deep and result in disregard of others feelings, and ultimately disregard for their needs and their validity as equals.

misunderstandings and presumptions, and miscommunication with those who have felt the pain of prejudice and are sensitized can quickly form disconnect that brings pain.

again i believe the Grace of Jesus love and power is needed on both sides between those who feel disenfranchised and those who are unaware feel everything is fine.

YES!  I left after '59.

No matter what is done racial discrimination will be with us to certain degree.  People discriminate because of color of the face, looks of the face.  An attractive looking women get ahead faster than others.  It is our human nature which is not necessarily correct.  Look at India which has uniform race but people there discriminate against others by creating a caste system which is worse than that of racial discrimination.  We have to grin and bear it. I have  suffered and experienced my share of racial discrimination.  It is different now than the period of 50's.
