I wanna join the secret service!

I had to pick up my son from school early, today, becasue he had a temperature and was feeling sick. I picked up our other son from the babysitter and I was about a mile from home when the police stopped the trafic just ahead of me.

After about 20 mins I was becoming very irritated.

The police officer was driving an unmarked saloon that he parked right across this busy main road. He was wearing military style uniform. Traffic from all directions was stooped. A helicoper flew low a couple of times overhead.

We waited and waited and waited and waited with no real activity that we could see.

I began to feel that this was something more than a normal police operation. The helicoper swooped again.

The it all happened.

First came the police motorcylists, about 10 (honestly 10) then a marked police car, then two or three black SUV's the last one had an unusual antennae (dark grey and as thick as a sign post). Then came the first of three long black sleek limos. The middle one had two American flags flying one each of the front wings. Then came five more huge black SUV's. The last two agins had some unusual stuff on the roof, like I've never seen before. Next came a shiny black truck like some sort of communications truck, another couple of SUV's, 2 ambulances with their lights flashing. Another SUV, an unmarked white car and then a marked police car flashing its lights.

I have never seen a motorcade like it. I can only assume it was the president. There is the Secret Service training base (not very secret) about a mile from where I live. When the Prez goes riding his bike apparently he goes there. There 's other State department/CIA installations nearby too! NSA is just up the road.

I guess it could have been Cherney. If that was Cheyney then Bush's must be huge. Or maybe Bush was in the black SUV behind me. That whole motorcade was a decoy!

I have to confess I was very impressed. Rest assured the president of these united states is very very well protected!

I'd love to drive one of those big black SUV's and just have folks stare! I just be where the action is? I wanna join the secret service!!!!!please!

Yeah....just like that but about 3 of them had high tech communication equipment on top. I guess I sound like a little kid.

In the UK, where I grew up, the PM's motocade used to be very low key. In fact, 2 or three cars at best!

Perhaps I've led a sheltered life!

When the prez came here to Portland last time, there were 3 motorcades. One real one and two decoys.

Admit it! You just want to get close to GW Bush.

I was stopped for President Clinton's motorcade once but I wasn't even close enough to see one limo, SUV or anything. He was down here a couple times raising money.

My brother worked very closely with the secret service a few years ago. It was his job to secure the areas where the President would be a few days in advance. Also, it was his job several times to make the announcement, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States."

During the four years he served in this capacity (a few years with President Clinton, and a few with President Bush), my brother only met the President once. It was kind of President Bush to take the time to acknowledge him and to thank him for a job well done.

I don't know why they bother with all that security. After all, the terrorists want to damage the United States, so why would they do anything to get rid of GWB?
