Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2017 Administrators Posted March 8, 2017 I am reading along in, Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes, the parable of the Good Samaritan. I never understood before the depth of the dynamics and what it all would have meant to the hearers then. But to have a hated Samaritan risk his life to care for a Jew no matter what condition he was in, particularly after a priest and a Levite wouldn't dare risk their skins due to implications of overstepping the Levitical boundaries, was truly astounding. The author states, "On hearing the story the lawyer has a chance to see that he cannot justify himself (that is, earn eternal life), because what he is challenged to do is beyond his capacity. At the same time he and all readers of the parable, since its creation, are given a noble ethical model to imitate." p.297 What a statement! But it is so true... Christ says to us, Follow Me. But how unarmed we are to do just that! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
