this kinda bothers me....

The 1833 Leonid meteor showers were apparently heavy only in the NE part of the United States.  What about all the other countries that read the Bible and look for signs?  I doubt that New England is the only place important enough to be privy to the signs foretold in scripture...

The prophecy of the star and scepter was predicting a king that would be God. There was no need for a star in the sky, but since the wisemen were looking for stars God sent them a star to lead them to the true fulfillment of the prophecy.

So with the dark day, red moon and falling stars. The context was Jesus was talking about the temple of Yahweh falling, normally that would be the end of the religion, but instead of the worship of Yahweh coming to an end with the temple's fall, the false gods; the sun, moon, stars and any other false god will fall to the spreading of the gospel.

The church started to fulfill the prophecy, but lost their first love. But during the late 1700s and early 1800s there arose the great Bible societies and Mission Societies and the Sunday school movement to raise funds for missions. Because of this the false gods were once again falling to the gospel. The dark day and red moon and the stars falling were God letting people know that these prophecies were indeed being fulfilled. But the true fulfillment was not what they saw in the sky but what was going on with the mission societies and Bible societies and Sunday School movement.

I have wondered about that too, but maybe that's where the sign took place because that's where the most intense interest in the Second Advent was and had the most meaning.
