Administrators Gail Posted March 20, 2006 Administrators Posted March 20, 2006 Can someone let me know how this turns out? I didn't make it I was going through an old cookbook of my mother's. It is a church fundraiser type of cookbook in which I've seen my cousin's name. I found this interesting recipe: Bible Cake 1/2 lb. Judges 5:25 1/2 lb. Jeremiah 6:20 1 Tbsp. 1 Samuel 14:25 3 of Jeremiah 17:11 1/2 lb. 1 Samuel 30:12 1/2 lb. Nahum 3:12 2 oz. Numbers 17:8 (blanched and chopped) 1 lb. 1 Kings 4:22 Season to taste with: 2 Chron. 9:9 A pinch of Leviticus 11:13 1 tsp. Amos 4:5 3 Tbsp. of Judges 4:19 Bake in slow oven for 2 hours. Anyone want to give it a go? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Nicodema Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I'm not sure 1/2 pound of sweet calamus incense and a pinch of detestable bird (eagle or black vulture) would make for a very tasty cake ... the rest of the ingredients sound palatable though ... Maybe Lev. 11:13 was a typo??? Maybe calamus comes in a food form? (*scratches head*) Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot
Administrators Gail Posted March 20, 2006 Author Administrators Posted March 20, 2006 Hahaha I found typos all through the book. It's an old book, typewritten I'm also not sure of the denomination- might be some kind of Catholic faith. My relatives are Ukrainian, who would eat anything But- I was too lazy to do the research. I figured- cake- what could go wrong? LOL I checked around that particular verse and the laws deal with skin diseases and other detestable things, so this one DEFINITELY is a typo! Nothing around there seems to fit Well, so much for THAT recipe book! I was going to chuck it anyway, except that this recipe looked intriguing Thanks for checking that for me, Nico! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Nicodema Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Here's the breakdown, Gail ... Bible Cake 1/2 lb. Judges 5:25 (milk) 1/2 lb. Jeremiah 6:20 (incense [?]/ sweet calamus) 1 Tbsp. 1 Samuel 14:25 (honey) 3 of Jeremiah 17:11 (eggs) 1/2 lb. 1 Samuel 30:12 (pressed figs or raisins) 1/2 lb. Nahum 3:12 (figs, thus guessing raisins for the above) 2 oz. Numbers 17:8 (blanched and chopped) (almonds) 1 lb. 1 Kings 4:22 (fine flour and/or meal) Season to taste with: 2 Chron. 9:9 (all manner of spices) A pinch of Leviticus 11:13 (um... "These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture..." -- ????) 1 tsp. Amos 4:5 (burnt leavened bread -- again: "???") 3 Tbsp. of Judges 4:19 (water or milk, probably water since the first ingredient was milk) Bake in slow oven for 2 hours. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot
Administrators Gail Posted March 20, 2006 Author Administrators Posted March 20, 2006 Yeah, the idea looks good, and apart from those gaps would be a fun project Maybe someone will have the missing pieces to complete the puzzle Thanks again, Nico, for your digging up of the ingredients Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Nicodema Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 No problem - work has been dull as beans today, nearly nothing to do here ... Zzzzzzz ....... Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot
Pockey Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 The only thing missing in the recipe is Matthew 3:4 for the texture. Quote
Amelia Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Well without levening this wont exactly be cake like we think of cake, but more like a heavy bread. I think that with the nuts, raisins and figs it may taste good with cardamom or allspice as the spice. Amelia Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Jeremiah 6:20 talks about sweet cane from a distant land. Sweet cane is sugar. Amelia Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Amos 4:5 Go on and offer your bread in thanksgiving to God, and brag about the extra offerings you bring! This is the kind of thing you love to do. Ok how about season with praise to God?
