The End Is Comming

In recent times a number of people have published material that has suggested that the current Pope in Rome will be that last Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, who will reign just prior to the coming of Christ the  2nd time.   One example of these writings may be seen in the thread entitled "The Three Angels Messages, Are they Dead or Alive?"

In actuality, this idea has existed for hundreds of years and it has its beginning in ancient history of the Roman Catholic Church.  A Roman Catholic Bishop, born in 1094, in material first published for the world to read, in 1595, predicted a long list of the Roman Popes which would end with the reign of the present Pope and the return of Christ the 2nd time.  This Bishop has been canonized as a Saint and is known as St. Malachy.

My point:  As I have stated a number of times:  There is little new in the current predictions related to the Roman Pope, the U.S. President and the return of  Christ.  Yes, St. Malachy did not make any predictions as to the U.S. President.  But, in later years, a number of people have combined the predictions of St. Malachy with predictions about the U.S. President.

While somewhat tangential to this subject, I am reminded of the Jesuit Priest Malachi Bredan Martin.  He was a novelist who wrote some seventeen (17) novels.  [NOTE:  On a few occasions he wrote under the name Michael Serafin.]  For understandable reasons, he has often been considered to be critical of the Roman Catholic Church.  In addition, he is thought to believe that the end is near.  As an interesting side note:  SDAs may think that he has some valid understandings of the Roman Catholic Church and the future.

The "Prophecy of Popes" has been attributed to St. Malachy in the 12th century, and published by Benedictine Monk Arnold Wion in 1595.  The prophecy says that the 112th Pope will be the last pope.  Pope Francis is the 112th pope.  The controversy lies in the suspicion that neither Pope Benedict nor Pope Francis were legitimately elected popes; but "papal placeholders".  This suspicion is especially true of Pope Francis.  He is a Jesuit; and the Papal See has been at odds with the Jesuits for decades (if not centuries) now.  Another Catholic "urban legend" is that every Pope elected from John XXIII on has been dedicated to satan through a freemason ceremony.  The Catholic Church dismisses the Malachy prophecies as forgeries.

JoMo, has as I expected that he would do   , given some of the background of the alleged prophecy of St. Malachy.  My point in the OP was not to deal with the  controversy that exists  as to the authorship of that alleged prophecy.  Rather, it was to  point to the Roman Catholic background of this present idea that dates back to the 1595, at the very least.
