It doesn't need necessarily to be a religious one, just a trip that had a special purpose for you. When I was younger I liked the art of Albrecht Dürer and did manage to travel to Nürnberg to visit his town, his house and his grave. That was like a pilgrimage for me. Some Christians go to Jerusalem or the Waldensian hideouts in Europe, or Rome if you are interested in church history.
