FUN MATH PROBLEM

Hope someone can explain how this works!

1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)

2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area

code)

3. Multiply by 80

4. Add 1

5. Multiply by 250

6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number

7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.

8. Subtract 250

9. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer?

very roughly, I think it's 80x250 = 20,000, then divided by 2 is 10,000. That does the job of moving the first 3 digits four places left to make space for the last 4... then you add in the last 4 twice and divide by two so you get it once again... that's the short version... and my apologies to anyone for whom explanation spoils the magic!

...and steps 4 and 8 are just misdirection - it should still work if you remove both of them. Try it out!
