Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 18, 2017 Moderators Posted May 18, 2017 See: https://atoday.org/is-being-left-handed-a-sin/ The above article begins the subject by asking the question: Is it a sin to be left-handed. Do not be deceived. The article broadens into a discussion as to what is sin. Quote Gregory
pierrepaul Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Thank you for posting this. I have often pondered this question, but I never read an article or heard a sermon which articulated the issue so well. Quote God never said "Thou shalt not think".
LifeHiscost Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Why did all but eight of them have to drown? 17 And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. .....Genesis 6 The next time it will be different. 13....each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.....1 Corinthian God is Love!~Jesus saves! Ron Amnsn Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Is it valid to extrapolate from something that the Bible does not actually say is wrong or sinful (left-handedness) and apply the resulting ideas or "principals" to things the Bible actually defines as wrong? It is good to see people thinking about the various definitions of sin. It was disappointing to see the author did not differentiate between murder and killing as the Bible does, and implied that God commanded the Israelites to break the "ten commandment" that specifies "Thou shalt not murder", which He did not. It seems the author is aiming to convince people that we can't actually know right from wrong so the best we can do is to be happy and tolerant, which is an idea that is contrary to what is taught in the Bible. The author also told us the meaning of nomos in Col 2:14 was "legalism", which is quite a stretch since Col 2:14 does not contain the word nomos in any form. It looks like nomos is not found anywhere in Colossians. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 27, 2017 Author Moderators Posted May 27, 2017 Valid criticism may be made of the article. But, does it stimulate thought? That was my intent in posting and I suspect the intent of the author. Quote Gregory
Administrators debbym Posted May 27, 2017 Administrators Posted May 27, 2017 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus did more to flesh out the meaning of sin, than anyone had ever heard before, or likely since. I have heard in sermons even more on the commandment thou shalt not steal. One can steal someone's time, their reputation, even their heart, and their joy, or peace... all deceitfully. phkrause 1 Quote deb Love awakens love. Let God be true and every man a liar.
