Moderators Bravus Posted March 30, 2006 Moderators Posted March 30, 2006 He has a very deep voice and an unusual song delivery. Some think it's depressing but I find it very moving. Amazon usually lets you listen to 20 second snippets of songs. Yep, there are a heap of samples here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006N...ance&n=5174 The album I was listening to, 'Tower of Song', is of a number of other people like Billy Joel, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Tori Amos, Jann Arden and so on, singing his songs, and provides a pretty decent starter too (although Bono pretty much murders 'Hallelujah' - but Sting and the Chieftains on 'Sisters of Mercy' is a treat!) Nicodema Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 Ed ... I love you. That was awesome, and the fact that you've spent hours trying to exegete it just got your name a seven-rayed gold star in my book. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot

I admire all you LC fans. And his lyrics are truly deep and thoughtful. So there must be something to his music.... I've never heard of him before. As Bravus said -- he has a really low, deep voice and his music is quiet and unusual. Not everyone's "cup of tea". If it hadn't been for "the Future" at the end of NBK I might never have heard of him. I won't quote the lyrics to "the Future" here because the third line might be considered highly inappropriate ... LOL ... but the first couple of lines are quoted in my sig, for SIGnificance. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot

Just Amelia's opinion. I probably couldn't sit through a whole listening of his songs without becoming morbidly depressed. What really blew me away was my friend John's (of Half-handed Cloud) version of Suzanne. I learned to appreciate Cohen's melodies and lyrics in that song when John sang it in his innocent and soulful way. I still have it on casette tape (remember those?) somewhere in my closet. Quote
Nicodema Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 He doesn't depress me ... but the effect he has on me is ... well, kind of unusual, to say the least. But he's not the only nor the first in that department. Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot
