Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 23, 2017 Moderators Posted May 23, 2017 As has been published in the past here in CA, in Samoa and some other islands in the Pacific there are SDAs worshiping on a day that is named Sunday, and sometimes also on a day named Saturday. The fundamental issue, as defined in the Bible is that the Sabbath should be observed on the 7th day of the seek and the day on which the Sabbath occurs is not determined by the named day of the week. These datelines and Time Zones are man made constructs no matter how you look at it. When it was created in the first place and when it changes. And these are really matters of conscience which no man has authority over. PERIOD! God created a round world that orbits the sun. He knows and loves and respects the hearts involved. I am so glad I do not have to deal with this issue. I would be torn back and forth seeing and understanding both sides. There must be a united divide ..that is respected assuring both sides that God is there in them. And no one is an enemy or spiritually less than wherever they land. That is the real SIN! Two strict sabbath-observers meet in Jerusalem and agree that each would travel around the world in opposite directions, on foot and by sail. They would meet in Tahiti. Each sets off on his travels, careful to rest on the seventh-day sabbath. When the two men meet in Tahiti, they will of course discover that they are observing sabbath on different days - the one traveling to the east will have experienced one extra day. After their rendez-vous in Tahiti, each continues on his way, again careful to observe and rest every 7th day. Some time later the men meet back in Jerusalem. Now the two men discover that they are observing the 7th day two days apart from each other, and that neither is observing the 7th day on the same day as the people who stayed in Jerusalem. However the issues is complex. As one who has lived in Asia and traveled back and forth between Asia and the United States. the issue is complex. Many years ago, a man by the name of Robert Leo Odem, authored a book, as I recall, named The Lord's Day on a Round World. I considered it to be a very valuable book and I regret that it is out of print now. Regardless, in my understanding the Biblical teaching is that the Sabbath occurs every 7th day, and is not related to the name of the day. So, if the 7thday is named Sunday, then Sunday is the day that should be observed. Whether in Asia, or in the U.S. I have believed that the then current 7th day was named in English Saturday. I also believe that in Samoa and certain other Pacific Islands, the current 7th day is named Sunday. Quote Gregory

The spherical world problem, and the moving man-made international date line, bothered me greatly in my youth. In those days, with no internet, and when regular air travel was the province of the wealthy, the issue was rarely discussed, and most had never even thought of it. The pastors and elders with whom I had discussed the question had never considered the problem before. Thankfully with the internet and the "information highway", I learned that Jewish scholars considered the issue centuries ago and that Adventist pioneers and scholars have considered the issue in depth, almost from the beginning of our movement. I had since resolved the issue in my own mind to my own satisfaction, but I'm looking forward to reading Robert Odom's study. Quote God never said "Thou shalt not think".

Therefore, I can not say whether or not any other changes have been made. Amazon also has several copies for sale. I am uncertain as to the publication date and Amazon may have a couple of publication dates. Quote Gregory

For some annoying reason, many Amazon.com sellers do not ship to Canada, and the selection at Amazon.ca is limited when it comes to obscure out-of-print titles.
