They are a first class school with a great reputation, and have people all over the world registering to go there. Many non-adventists, and I am ok with that. Even though innovations seems to have passed in the NAD, I think it is time to get another medical school going. Loma Linda is a school we can be proud of, but so many of our members can not send their children there for several of the disciplines.. thoughts? LifeHiscost Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 As a member of a more modest income family, I was extremely pleased to receive an approximately 90% discount for medical services rendered from a sister organization, something that wouldn't have been possible had only lower prices been charged others. Moderators antcreations Posted May 30, 2017 Moderators Posted May 30, 2017 It is actually affordable when the graduate signs up with the GC after graduation. The GC has an agreement with LLU that if the medical/dental graduate signs up with the GC as a medical missionary for world service (at least 7-10 years of service) - the GC will pay for the school fees (loan) incurred at LLU. Many Adventist young people have benefitted from the program and many are still in the field serving the church and humanity. Richard Ruhling is citing a blog article that he wrote To get back to Stan's OP, I think a new medical school would be great! There are so many talented kids out there who can't afford LLU. It's not like it used to be when many students could work their way through school. Plus, I would venture that a good portion of the LLU med school students are the progeny of the SDA elite (physicians, dentists, lawyers, and ministers)... Sometimes I think that unless you *know* "someone", or are related to "someone," a regular joe who has great grades and superb potential gets turned down. I know of someone who didn't really want to go to med school and didn't have very good grades, but he got into LLU simply because of who his father was. So...he took up a space in the med school class that could have been given to someone who really wanted to be there.
