David Koot Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Quote: Shane said: Intelligent Design has much more science behind it than creation does. That may depend upon whom you are talking with. The thread on the public forum which I referred to above, was entitled, "Intelligent Design Not Science." The scientists on that thread ridiculed scientists who are adherents of ID, stating that no true scientist could possibly believe in ID. My position statement did not purport to defend ID as science. I simply pointed out that they ALL are belief systems. Quote
bevin Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Quote: Some believe this... Others believe that... Still others believe that... the most likely is this... Correct. They are looking at evidence that is millions of years old, nd therefore has itself been ravaged by the events of those years. The continents have moved sideways, land has moved up and down, and changed angles, the shore lines have changed drastically, and the material that was deposited has been then eroded. None of which would have happened if the Canyon had been formed last week. /Bevin Quote
Dr. Shane Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 ID tends to stay based on science until Biblical creationsists jump on board. That tends to be what I have observed. I have read papers written by nonchristians that believe in Intellgient Design and the basis for their beliefs is all based on scientific observations. However when Christian creationists write on Intelligent Design, I notice they tend to go outside the limits of science. That said, I think the observation that Darwinism is a belief system has a lot of truth to it. Many of these scientists are quite arrogant and critical of anyone that dares to question their theories. If one points out they are full of hot air they will claim that they are just too smart to be understood. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 The Grand Canyon was formed between five and ten thousand years ago, not last week. There is no river delta because the water was moving so fast it was all washed out to sea. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
bevin Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Quote: The Grand Canyon was formed between five and ten thousand years ago, not last week. There is no river delta because the water was moving so fast it was all washed out to sea. This explanation does NOT account for what we see on the ground. It does not account for the various deposits we do find. the various rivers and old river channels. the various fossils. the types of rocks and gravels NOR do we find all the stuff out in the ocean where your trivial explanation dumped it NOR do we find the evidence of such a huge rush of water at one time carrying the gravel etc Shane, your explanations are so wrong that they simply show you are not doing your homework. Your utter certainty about them simply shows you do not do enough work to verify your positions are correct. /Bevin Quote
Dr. Shane Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 The book "Grand Canyon: A Different View" by Tom Vail answers all of these questions. It is available at Amazon.com Here are a couple of the reviews: Quote: If you want to know the truth about this incredibly beautiful natural phenomenon, and its cataclysmic formation, read this book! In spite of the chinese-water-toture dripping of the evolutionists' endless drivel, most thinking people can observe and understand that this overwhelming canyon was carved out by massive flows of water. The bookstores at the Grand Canyon can't keep it in stock. It sells out too fast. Quote: Just because the science presented in the book provides a different view, does not make it bad science. There are 23 contributors to the book, including 17 scientists, 14 of whom have PhDs in fields of geology, paleontology, biology, biochemistry, physics, and geophysics, from colleges like Harvard, Penn State, and Princeton. And it is selling for less than $12. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Dr. Shane Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 It seems I am being mistaken for someone else. I don't claim to make scientific arguements. Mine are pholosophical in nature. I do not claim that any one theory is correct. I claim that no one should be so sure they know what exactly happened in the past when none of us were there to observe it. I invite a healthy exchange of ideas and point out that the secular evolutionists are the ones that try to stop such discussions through means of insults and intimidation. Quote: quoting from a book that supports your views and then discounting other authors because they differ This is exactly what secular evolutionists do. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... gmrcguy Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 I think the reason we are all alive today is because the Father is still working to keep us alive. Not only to keep us survive, but that he still supports our reproduction, and recreation of His image in us. We cannot therefore limit God to stop from being creative. He must have created some animals and plants in different times, some earlier, the others later, and that we humans are to name them upon discovering they exist, as God had given us dominion in everything He made. It was recorded, thus: John 5:17 And Jesus answered them, `My Father till now doth work, and I work;' (Young Literal Translation) Quote Please pray for GAO SDA Church of Quezon City. bevin Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Quote: This is exactly what secular evolutionists do Typically they are frustrated with the arguments made against evolution because (a) The argument has usually already been widely examined and refuted, the refutation is publically available, and the person pushing it yet again simply has not done their homework, or ( The proposal is so at odds with the publically available evidence as to be ludicrous. It would be akin to saying "SDA'ism is obviously wrong because Jesus promised the thief on the cross they would be paradise that day, and besides, the NT clearly teaches that Sunday is the Lord's day". If you want to be taken seriously, you have to read about and understand the evidence. Philosophy does not cut it. /Bevin Quote
Dr. Shane Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Saddly some Adventists do take that type of attitude. Of course, two wrongs don't make a right. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
