Today I attended a lecture on criminal justice in the U.S.  The lecturer teaches at a near-by university.  He has been both a Federal Prosecutor and a Defense Attorney.  I found many of his facts and figures to be interesting.

*  The U.S. has 5 % of the world's population.

*  The U.S. has in its prisons & Jails 25 % of those who are in prison/jail in the world.

*  On the average,  in the U.S. is costs $75,000 per year to place a person in prison.

IL spent some time talking to him after the lecture and he said he will e-mail me his power point presentation.  After I receive it, I will bring some of his facts and figures to this forum for discussion, as I find them interesting.

For now, I will lock this thread until I can get a copy of his Power Point.

I have decided not to further cite this lecture.  If anyone wants to comment on the above post, they may do so.

One ohter comment:  In the lecture, he said that the U.S. spends, on the average, $75,000 per year for each person in prison.

The person who presented this lecture was John Penneton.
