So you must specify that you are the dgveggie from tennessee? LIke there are others out there from other states?

I was baptised into the adventist church 2 months ago, found a church 6 months ago and learned about the adventist movement 2 years ago - yes, it has taken me that long to 1)realize I need a church and 20 find the right one.

For that year and a half I have been keeping Sabbath and changed the dietary thingie but it is a real challenge to keep the Sabbath when you have no one else that follows it, have no church to go to or anyone that gets what you are doing. So that is my little story, thanks for asking. I am excited about campmeeting especially after hearing so much about it for 6 months now. Thanks for sharing with me some of your experiences.

Michigan is not like other places. They have fancy new buildings and it is all enclosed. If you register early you might get a brand new cabin. Last years key speaker was Richard O'Ffill from Florida. They will have top speakers. There will be lots of people there. Probably 2,500 to 3,000 on the weekend. Every Michigan Pastor will be there. They used to close the churches. Some still do close. There will be books for sale. Last year there was a great used bookstore setup one block away.

Hi Elizabeth,

I have attended both of the last two campmeetings. Just e-mail me and I will try and answer all your questions. I love the early morning meetings. I think they are among the best. But then the seminars in the morning and afternoon are very good. Then the evening meetings are inspirational. See I just can't make up my mind. As far as what to bring I have a list I developed from a list my Mother had over 20 years ago. I can e-mail it to you too. Are you staying in a tent or camper or in the dorm? BTW all the cabins are gone.

I can't get the time off work to go the whole time and I am very disappointed.

Hey, thanks for the info Joe. I attended the last campmeeting that was held at the old campgrounds in Lansing. I have missed being able to go and spend a whole week fellowshiping with other SDAs from my area. Maybe I will see you there this year.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

The Lower Penninsula Michigan Campmeeting is held on the campus of Great Lakes Adventist Academy (GLAA), in Cedar Lake, Michigan. Special four-room cabins have been built, sites for RV and travel trailers have been established, and a huge, air-conditioned gym/auditorium (holds over 2,000 people) has been added to the main campus buildings. Last year they also had two giant video screens beside the stage at the front of the auditorium, with images fed by several cameras, so even people way in the back could see what was going on.

My wife and I always prefer to stay in one of the dorms. Boys and girls dorm rooms are available for rent during the campmeeting. You only get one room with two beds, two closets, and a sink in each room, but they are fairly good-sized rooms. You have to bring your own bed linens, pillows, blankets, and curtains. Bathrooms are just down the hall, indoors. The price can't be beat. You can stay for the entire 9-day meeting for the price of staying just one weekend at a cheap motel. All the campmeeting activities and meetings are conducted in buildings between the two dorms, so you are right in the middle of things. Folks in the cabins have a long way to walk. (It can take 5-10 minutes or longer for some people to walk from the most outlying cabins to the main auditorium.)

Last year, we could only come out for the two weekends plus one day during the week, but we still rented a dorm room for the full nine days, and saved money.

You are required to purchase your meal tickets in advance, and let them know which meals you intend to eat there. Last year most of the time they provided box lunches, which you could eat in the cafeteria, or take back to your cabin/room to eat. All the meals are vegetarian. Sometimes (but not always, at least not last year) they offer vegan alternatives, for those who do not eat dairy.

Lots of people prefer to just sit in lawn chairs by someone's trailer, and visit all Sabbath afternoon. It's a family get together.[:"f7f7f7" size=1]
