Reduce Auto Insurance Cost

As many of you may know, for many years one can reduce the cost of their automobile insurance by taking a so-called safe driving course.  One of the more recent additions to the courses that one can take to reduce their insurance cost is the AARP Smart Driving Course, which is designed for people who are 50 years of age, or older.    Information on taking this course may be obtained at:

aarp.org/findacourse

This course is offered both on-line and in a classroom.

35 States require that insurance companies reduce the insurance cost for classroom instruction.  In other States the cost may be voluntarily reduced.

23 States mandate that insurance companies reduce the insurance cost for people  who complete the course on-line.  In other states the cost may be voluntarily reduced.

The classroom instruction is an 8-hour course for 1st time attendees and 4-hours for people who have taken the 8-hour course previously.

AARP gives people who take the on-line course 60 days to complete the course.

The insurance reduction is good for 3 years.

My insurance company offers a rate reduction of $16.31 for each of the three years, for one driver.  For two drivers, the rate reduction is $32.04.

The cost to take the online course is $19.95 for AARP Members and $24.95 for people who are not AARP members.

NOTE:  People who live in New York and Georgia may have the largest savings, but your insurance company will determine the level of saving and some insurance companies may not give any reduction.

The cost to take the classroom course will be determined by the instructor who provides the instruction.

NOTE:  There are other courses available for people who are not yet 50 years of age.

If your miles of actual driving are low, whatever your age and if you have a more recent vintage vehicle you will probable be able to take advantage of Metromile as they charge a low rate to begin with, and then I believe .0123 cents per mile as well. I saved approximately 1/4 per month less than AARP.

God is Love!~Jesus saves!  :D

Well, Life, you have brought to my attention a new method of obtaining automobile insurance of which I was not aware.  For more information see:

https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/insurance/reviews/metromile-review/

It should be noted that this company is only licensed to do business in seven (7) U.S. States.  It also appears that this company is financially stable and has a very high rate of customer complaints.

It appears that this  insurance is most effective for people who drive less than 10,000 mile a year.  As the mileage increases, so does the monthly cost.

The company charge consists of a flat monthly rate, plus an additional charge for every mile that one drives.  The mileage driven is determined by a device attached to your car that transmits the mileage driven directly to the company.

It looks to me like  this company is most effective for people who want the minimal amount of automobile insurance required by State law.  Any person who is a homeowner, will probably need a larger amount of insurance which would potentially not be good insurance from this company, if it offers the level of increased coverage that is needed.

IOW, you have given us an alternative that may fit the needs of some people, but may not be good for all reading this.
