Moderators Kevin H Posted August 4, 2017 Moderators Posted August 4, 2017 If God were a woman then President Wilson, Doug Bachelor and Stephen Bohr would point out that God lives by the law of Self Sacrificing love/Self Renouncing love and say "See even our God who is a woman recognizes male headship and thus submits to us..." Moderators Kevin H Posted August 4, 2017 Moderators Posted August 4, 2017 Excellent article. According to one of my professors, Dr. Jim Fleming, in western translations God is usually either depicted as male tense or neuter tense, unless there was no way around it. However, in the Hebrew it is 50% of the time in the male tense and the other 50% in the female tense. At AUC while they did not point out the 50% 50% they still pointed out that God is often referred to in female terms in the Bible, and that one of the Old Testament understandings of the second aspect of the Godhead that developed in our knowledge into Jesus was as the female wisdom. There are situations in Hebrew where a male will take the feminine forms and females will take the masculine forms. So, if I were to say something in a "feminine form", would that make me turn into a "female"? Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 4, 2017 Author Moderators Posted August 4, 2017 Do you speak Hebrew? If you were speaking Hebrew, it would be important as to whether you were speaking it correctly. If you correctly used the feminine form, that would speak for itself. Quote Gregory
whbae Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Can a father become a female. I do not know the Hebrew language, but all other language we call God "Father". Besides, I like God to be male as He created woman so beautiful and sensual. Quote
Outta Here Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I don't think of God as male or female. I use the pronoun "He" because it sounds better than "It". Still, what does gender have to do with how God loves us--especially when you consider that He loves us COMPLETELY as a perfect parent would. CoAspen, Gail, phkrause and 2 others 5 Quote

Administrators Gail Posted September 2, 2017 Administrators Posted September 2, 2017 I like the subject of considering what/who God is, but am leery of bottling Him up into something we can understand. Every topic I study in the Bible seems to get bigger and bigger until I end up with a sense of awe. The nature of God is one of those. I see from reading the Bible that God has a number of female qualities. In my understanding (my current conclusion), I feel that mankind, both men and women, reflect some aspects of God that is a more complete picture than just the one gender. A parent brings in another angle to God's love that we wouldn't see otherwise, a physician, another. whbae Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Genesis 1:27 says that God created "man" in His own image. I do not have to read into any further trying to see the meaning is different from what really says. E G White commented "When Adam came from the Creator's hand, he bore, in his physical, mental, and spiritual nature, a likeness to his Maker". Then, he also created female. There is no "ifs", "buts" or "in-between", just male and female, period! Quote

GayatfootofCross Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 It is interesting to note that God puts This imagery from the first chapter as both female and male. Gen 1:27 .." I had much to unlearn as a child in order to become a child of God, and among the five different foster homes my brother and I shared for that time, was one woman who, while strict in punishment, always before putting us to bed would sit us on her lap and hug and cuddle us before she said the final goodnight. I give her the credit for sharing the love of God that kept us both from going off the deep end and eventually enabled us both to become followers of Jesus. God is Love!~Jesus saves! I may try to dig it up and share some of it here. But as I recall, ONE way that who God is, can be seen by BOTH a man and a woman, together in HOLY matrimony...not unholy...there is a difference. But, one thing that i summarized and concluded was that God's character, and His image has enough different "aspects" to cover for everyone. Man, woman, married, single, gay, straight, muslim, christian, and even catholics. He meets all needs, when given the chance. He meets each one at the point of felt need.
