B/W Photodude Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. - 1 Samuel 18:1 This story is a fascinating story of the relationship of David and Jonathon, but unfortunately some try to subsume the story into their own agendas. In fact, some situations that are innocent in their time get "revised" today and other behaviors ascribed to an event of the past. The relationship of David and Jonathan uses an interesting term "knit" to describe the closeness of their relationship. Today, researchers are beginning to look at the lives of boys and the following fascinating piece was written. https://medium.com/@remakingmanhood/why-do-we-murder-the-beautiful-friendships-of-boys-3ad722942755 I do take one exception to the article. It is suggested that if homophobia were to cease and acceptance of same sex marriage were to occur, then everything would be peachy nice. I disagree. If no one engaged in the practices then boys would be freer to have their friendships last much longer. I frequently very much miss the friends I had as a child and teenager very much. And I suspect many others feel the same way. Today, many men have no real friends and suicide in men over fifty is three times that of women over fifty. Having a single relationship, such as a wife, did not change the rates, only broader social supports was said to make a difference. This is a relevant topic to the church as it is generally acknowledged that there is a lower percentage of men in the church compared to women, but there is little concern about the men. Compare the resources being spent on women's ministries and all the money being spent trying to drum up support for women's ordination and you may come to the conclusion that there is a problem.
