Margie Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Why was the name of this forum changed to AdventiStan? I totally hate it. Kingdom of AdventiStan? Worse. What kind of message are being sent out with this name change? When I see this name I keep on seeing Satan. Hey it's just off by a couple letters. Quote
Stan Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Stan at the end of name means Land of. India used to be hindustan.. land of hindus etc etc that is all it means, nothing more. Margie Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 So the name reads as The Kingdom of the land of Adventis? Really weird. Especially when it's coming into my email as Kingdom of AdventiStan. Quote

aka Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I really don't know how it came about but I was duped into truly believing Club Adventist was a mission outreach from one of Canada's sda conferences. That meant in my eyes money was conference support given to this Forum. However things took a tumble in my brain waves as I saw the new registered title: Kingdom of AdventiStan After some deliberation I came to the conclusion that the CAD conference would allow him to remain manager of the Forum but surely not 'king' of the Forum. Then I accepted the possibility that Stan actually does own exclusively the Forum himself and foots all the bills of costs himself. This insight came at the beginning of this year to me. So apparently all the fiddling around he does on the technical side of this place is under his own initiative. It's his 'baby' and his rule in making decisions. Of course many are the suggestions for improvement of this and that coming from the members. He does his best to get all the suggestions put into the flow of Forum workings. Sometimes what is suggested for him to change something doesn't get changed for some background unfeasible reason. All in all he still remains democratic. Far from the path taken by President Trump who seems to be going for being a 'king' in his forthcoming dictatorship. On 8/12/2017 at 11:12 PM, Stan said: Stan at the end of name means Land of. That's just a ruse for hiding his megalomaniac urge for being a 'king' in his own Kingdom. If he didn't capitalize the 'S' in AdventiStan he would be more accepted in the title choice. Otherwise it draws the reader to give glory to 'Stan' as human leader of all us minions running around here at the Forum. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 18, 2017 Moderators Posted August 18, 2017 Ultimately, Stan has been personally responsible for the costs of running this forum. That is why you see him begging for funds (as he calls it), which he hates to do. Over the years, the funds that have come in from the members, I do not believe, have paid for the costs of its operation. Yes, when push comes to shove, Stan is the final decision making authority. That is why I, and others, may tell people who complain to us to take it up with Stan. However, It should be said that Stan listens to the members of this forum, the other 2 Administrators, and the Moderators. From that perspective, I believe that some of the decisions that are made are not the decision that Stan would have personally chosen. IOW, Stan does support the people who come here. No, I do not believe that either the Canadian Union Conference, nor any other such organization, financially supports this forum Folks, the bottom line is: The ongoing operational expenses of this forum need your financial support. JoeMo Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Folks are free to think whatever they want; and stay here on Adventistan or not. I find this site and the people I have met here to be delightful (for the most part) to the point that this is my cyber-church. I spend more time here than I do at my home "bricks and mortar church. I am glad to financially support this site. I'm thankful to Stan for his administration. This site beats the heck out of Face-Book and Twitter! Stan, 8thdaypriest, phkrause and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Stan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I can easily make it a small s. It was initially done as a novelty why did the name change? A person with good intentions (believe they were ) clicked on a google add about 10000 times over a week. After finding out clicking on an ad created 5-20 cents the google computers are convince I hired someone to do that, as soon people do. Even thou it was happening on the west coast. The banned club adventist from those ads and income. The computers rejected my appeals. So needed to use another domain name. I had this one in inventory. That is the backstory to this. Now ow we are back at earning $1 per day or so. It used to be more than that. Stan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 The domain was used for a semi-satire site for a few years. Very inactive. I made a joke about people could by citizenship in the Kingdom for $1 each, Limit would be 144,000. A total of 3-4 were purchased. After visa transations fees and other visa charges I cleared about 50 cents each. It was more about fun. phkrause 1 Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com

LifeHiscost Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Much like the world in general, the major conception of Adventistan, IMHO, has followed the pathway of being politically correct or suffer the wrath of the dissenters. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Politically correct" and "Politically incorrect" redirect here. For other uses, see Politically Correct (disambiguation) and Politically incorrect (disambiguation). The term political correctness (adjectivally: politically correct; commonly abbreviated to PC or P.C.) is used to describe the avoidance of language or actions that are seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups of people who are seen as disadvantaged or discriminated against, especially groups defined by sex or race.[1] In mainstream political discourse and media, the term is generally used as a pejorative, implying that these policies are excessive.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] The term had only scattered usage before the 1990s, usually as an ironic self-description, but entered more common usage in the United States after it was the subject of a series of articles in The New York Times.[9][10][11][12][13][14] The phrase was widely used in the debate about Allan Bloom's 1987 book The Closing of the American Mind,[4][6][15][16] and gained further currency in response to Roger Kimball's Tenured Radicals (1990),[4][6][17][18] and conservative author Dinesh D'Souza's 1991 book Illiberal Education, in which he condemned what he saw as liberal efforts to advance self-victimization, multiculturalism through language, affirmative action, and changes to the content of school and university curricula.[4][5][17][19] Commentators on the left have said that conservatives pushed the term in order to divert attention from more substantive matters of discrimination and as part of a broader culture war against liberalism.[17][20] They also argue that conservatives have their own forms of political correctness, which are generally ignored by conservative commenters. Margie Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 I admit I was kinda a troll cause who truly cares besides God what one little person somewhere in the world thinks? After months of seeing the name change, the capitalized S kept on popping out with every email I received and pushing my buttons. But I am impressed with the direct nature of those who responded, the resulting parley with words. I do appreciate Stan being willing to uncapitalize the S and I think the name looks better that way. Thank you Stan. Now with a better understanding of the nature of this forum and why the name changed I think I'll be visiting a little more. The idea that I can post in a place where readers will understand the Adventist concepts I present appeals to me, and I like a casual/informal environment. It's too bad though that Google won't cough up the money earned through the Club Adventist ads. God is good. He will open doors when the timing is right and we faithfully ask. With what has been happening via social media over the last few months and through personal interactions over the last few years I kinda see where you're coming from. Communication is an art all of us try our hand in one way or other. To some it comes naturally and to others it doesn't, but to survive we must dabble. Ultimately all communication requires a tango of sorts between the speaker and listeners. Personally I like friendly engagements but I also like being direct. I understand that not everyone likes that too. It's rather cool when an expressed thought is discussed by a group, with the possibility of a change happening. So was I being PC or was I not? 8thdaypriest Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Stan, are you saying that the monthly amount I set up through paypal to ClubAdventist is no longer being paid to you? Do I need to go to paypal again to set up a payment to Adventistan? I truly appreciate this forum. My views agree with SDAdventism in many ways, but differ from Adventism in some important things. The moderators have never suggested I leave because of my honestly held views. And you Stan have defended me when a few participants got personally abusive during discussions. Thank you. Discussions here with serious Bible students have given me many good insights. And the forum allows folks to challenge my views. I need that. Stan, debbym, Margie and 3 others 6 Quote 8thdaypriest

GoodNews Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I am one of those who are putting one foot into the 'barley (smile) Adventist'. I was invited to join an SDA church a couple of weeks ago, and am planning to get involved. I saw the name here with the capital S and thought...WOW...someone finally sees it the same way that I do. The basic teachings related to the Bible and areas of relative importance seem to have somewhere in the 89-90% overlap with my own. The agreement of understanding of the message seems to have a 10-20% overlap. This resulted in my no longer looking to the church for guidance in the area of understanding, and since my understanding, is often at variance with 'sister' White, those with which I attempt to communicate with, and do not have a common understanding with me regarding the meaning of the word 'is' (sic) is, I cannot claim to be a member of the Adventist Church to those with which I generally communicate with. The capital S made it immediately clear that here was a group which where 'in' the Church but were not drinking the 'cool aide'. Someone with whom I could communicate with and who would give an open mind to the things I might ask and/or say, and point me in the right direction before I find myself driving into the ditch. I believe that, while it may make the traditionalist feel better, it is not likely to be as apt to catch the eye of a 'lurker' and we are the ones who really need something like this! Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 23, 2017 Moderators Posted August 23, 2017 You are very welcome to come to this forum and to participate. My, non-scientific view of this forum is that about 1/3 are traditional, middle of the road, SDAs; 1/3 are people on the edge of Adventism, and the final 1/3 are not SDAs, some of whom come to understand and some for other reasons. We welcome all of the above. We act against spamers, the solicitation of money and trolls. We ask for some civility but expect robust conversations. On occasion, a conversation will reach a point where we have to say: Enough is enough. 8thdaypriest 1 Quote Gregory
