To all, please note:  "Barely Adventist" it the name of an Internet forum that is NOT associated this forum.

People who populate that  forum are welcome   here.  But, it is quite different in content and purpose from this forum.

Except...Barely Adventist IS kind of associated with "AdventiStan" or ClubAdventist, or Adventistan...there is a subforum here where articles are posted periodically and shared as humor. It's been "approved" for sharing.

It is true that occasionally something from Barely  Adventist may be posted here.  I suppose that there are other associations that   could be made:

*  Postings in Barely Adventist and in this forum may be made in English.

*  People comment on both.

*  Both forums are read by people who do not post.

*  In Barely Adventist and in this forum, the true name of the one who posted may not be known.

We stopped the automatic posting a few months ago from them.  They just do not seem to have the 'fun' part they had in the beginning and some seemed not satire but sarcastic.

@Aubrey Not sure what you mean approved for sharing?

I have a number of ideas/thoughts that I would like to have your input on. Some might be in the area of 'out of bounds' such as 'Is it true that organized religion is the devils  counterfeit for the Gospel?' I will send more if you do not send me away on this. If this is acceptable the rest probably will not be quiet a provocative.

Hope to be back with you again later. Thank you!

Excellent question - one I have posed here before.  At the risk of being repeatedly redundant, Bono once said when the Holy Spirit leaves the church, all you have left is religion.  My answer to your question would be "generally, yes".

Why then go back every week for reinforcement of that which you heard last time, and what do you do with the warning that by beholding we will become changed.

@Stan I meant that the Barely Adventist threads were seen consistently shared here at ClubAdventist. Admittedly, it's been a while since I've frequented this site. TBH, I wasn't aware that the automatic posting had stopped. I was one who felt the sarcastic nature of their satirical news wasn't consistent with what I choose to read in my life: I made a conscious effort to abstain from reading the updates and avoided this website as well because I felt it was not in my best interest to continue filling my mind with sarcasm and satire.

Aubrey, I was responding to JoMo and the church. I read the chapter of Proverbs everyday that corresponds with the day of the month. I believe that reading the Bible everyday makes a lot of difference in the way I relate to everyone all the time.

@GoodNews, Okay. I just chimed in a bit because Stan asked me a question. I'd hoped to have answered his question in my post.

Again - an excellent question.  I believe the Holy Spirit is alive and well in the church I attend.  I keep going back because of the Spirit's presence - which is evident in the membership of our little church.  I learn new stuff every week (sometimes I even teach new stuff); and I always come away with a renewed feeling of awe concerning the love and mercy of God towards me.  Do we all agree on every single point of "doctrine"?  Absolutely not.  Do we all seek to know the Father and the Son more intimately because they are indeed God and Savior?  Absolutely.  Do we love one another? Yes - intensely.  If you don't get that feeling at your church, it might be time to go church shopping.

In a sense, that's what it was like for me.  I had to go to the "church store" and try several varieties of church before I found one that was healthy as well as tasty.  When I found the brand that worked for me, I experienced brand loyalty.

Adventism might not be someone's favorite brand.  For me, as long as they someone is picking a brand that has a healthy helping of Jesus blended with His Word, they are "smart shoppers".  Jesus is who saves us, not our denomination.

That's to be said often!

The denomination is a device for getting  an education in sanctification. Therein, if we listen carefully, we ought to hear the values of God's divine moral standard for us humans. If we are cautious in applying the 10C's to our daily decision making we are spared much grief of our own making.

Being in a denominational community helps with being watch by others that our behavior grows into the image of God.

Even the Army has tough rules and regulations. We ought not think that rules and regulations are less in God's divine Kingdom.

Very good discernment. The same way I look at the ten Words/commandments, as promises, an evidence that Jesus is fulfilling His promises to us as we submit to His Holy Spirit, without which we would be beyond hope.

4Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. 5I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.....John 15

Nevertheless when Jesus said what wasn't liked or accepted in His chosen denomination, He didn't leave it except by His death.

12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’ 14In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.… Matthew 13

No, you really shouldn't have changed the name. I hate it, too. Club Adventist was our place. Adventist an is Stan's place. Whatever the meaning, the title is ridiculous and makes it seem like this place is ruled by a certain someone. I want to quit.

I don't intend to leave my denomination, either.  But my denomination doesn't save me.  My denomination gives me a group of (mostly) wonderful people who believe like I do - people with whom I love to worship and socialize - my closest friends and confidants; people who hold me accountable, celebrate my joys with, and who comfort me in my grief.  But neither they nor the church saves me.  The blood and grace of Jesus save me.  Nonetheless, I thank God for the fellowship and support of my brothers and sisters in the SDA church.  I also thank God for my clan of fellow believers who are not SDA's.

LifeHiscost, What do you do with Matthew 23 v 39. Do you think Jesus was announcing that He was leaving?

Can't remember what I said or referred to that prompted you to ask that question. However after looking up the Scripture, that appears to be what Jesus was saying.

I also need to say, that I am open to changing the name...  I also have teamadventist.com in our inventory.  google and clubadventist will not play together, and we need them for various reasons.

Adventist_Fellowship_Hall or Adventist_Foyer or maybe Adventist_Potluck or Potluck_Adventist?

Too long a title is not is not conducive to this modern-age of "short and sweet" labeling.

Something that includes 'barely adventists' folk would be appreciated.

Anything that is cult-like with reference to traditional customs or habits of SDA's ought to be avoided.

The title name ought to be all inclusive and not separating the wheat from the chaff by labeling group types who would be visiting these 'sacred halls of ivy'.

What about.... "Fresh-Hope SDA Community"?   or maybe "SDA Seekers Forum"  or maybe  "Talking Believers"?
