I wasn't 100% sure they were really going to do it. (Speaking as the Founder and Manager of both forums for the past 6 years.) Personally I have not posted a single message on the original Adventist Online forum since March 31--my last day of work (and pay) at the General Conference. When I left work, somebody did give me a nice printed document which I can frame--congratulating me for my 32 years of work for the denomination. And I got a $100 line of credit at Amazon.com--as a farewell parting gift from the department(I spent it on Civil War and Bible books). [i.e.: "Don't go away mad, just go away!"] I had to take Medical Retirement--in order to survive. Thankfully, my wife still is head of a department at the Review and Herald Publishing Assoc (proofroom), or our income would be pretty meager now-a-days. Frankly, I see this as a really bad day for the church. Just when other major companies are opening up two-way communication with their customers via the Internet, our church closes a fantastic channel that we had going successfully with more than 4,000 REGISTERED members (when I left on March 31, the forum had 3,666 registered members, but 13,000 people who visited one or more times a month--in just 18 months time of operation). Unfortunately, neither of these two new forums (Voluntary Online Adventist and Club Adventist) separately, or even combined, have anything like the amount of people that we had on the church's Adventists Online Forum on March 31. (As they said back in the 60s: "Where have all the flowers gone?") However, it was not my decision to make. I was told it was a financial decision that they had to make. But I ABSOLUTELY KNOW the users of the Web forum would have been more than happy to donate a small amount every 6 months (i.e., $12) or $25 a year to keep the forum running. (If you have 2,000 people donating $25 per year, you have $50,000 a year income.) And the forum was growing by 200-250 new members a month--before they made the announcement they were going to "pull the plug" on June 15. At least it would have been something to TRY--say for a year--to see if it would pay for itself. Well, I guess I will work on a new book--now that I have some time on my hands. I have written 18 books thus far, and was feeling kinda bad that I had not had time to prepare any new books for the past 8 years or so (because I had to drive back and forth 3 hours each day from Hagerstown, MD, to the church headquarters in Silver Spring, MD). [i put 149,000 miles on my poor ?92 Camaro, making that dumb drive!!!) And I have a couple of new hobbies which are kinda fun (one is collecting Confederate and old US currency from Civil War days). Interestingly, when I was working at the GC, I suggested that I could manage the Adventists Online forum working from home part of the time (i.e., 2 days a week), and then drive to the office the other days--but the Department director would have NOTHING to do with the suggestion. At least until I left. And then they let the interim forum manager oversee the Web forum 100 percent from Berrien Springs, Michigan. Go figure! Never has there been a medium where so may of the lay people can be informed so quickly of what is happening in the church both good and bad. It is the bad that concerns the church. IMO This is why they wanted the forums shut down. To control or silence all bad news within the church spread through the internet. Quote Riverside CA

Yes Ralph was very disappointed in the churches decision to close down the forum. The church as Ralph was saying was not even interested in trying to see of a fee structure much as what we do here on Clubadventist could be achieved and support the forum. I think Stan has shown that it could be done. I think that the size and growth of the forum and how well known the forum has become alarms church leaders. I would not be surprized if they try some petty lawsuit to try to shut us down or at least to make it so we are not as well known. I would hope the Church is above that. One would hope anyway. When did that happen? Thought the legal expertise was there to handle legal matters at the request of the leadership, or are they now the leadership??
