Here is the process you go through when your house floods:

This is what happens when your house floods 

Do you have special insurance for earthquake, flooding, tsunami, etc? What do you do when the local hotels are also down and there is nowhere nearby to go?

Can you get insurance if you live in Tornado Alley or somewhere that has a high likelihood of natural disasters?

I would say yes!! You'll pay a bigger fee for sure!!

*  Your home Owners insurance should pay for your living expenses, such as a hotel, for up to a year, if your home burns down.

*  Most people do not have Flood Insurance.  There are many factors as to cost.  I have it and it is less than $450 per year.  By the way, flood insurance pays claims for water damage when there was not a flood. 

* Earthquake Insurance:  Actually an earthquake could happen most everywhere.  Again, there are many factors that impact on the price.  Where I live in California many homes could purchase it for $250 per year

*  Be aware as to whether or not your policy pays upon loss to bring the new home up to code, as well as to pay additional amounts to build in case of a wide spread disaster when prices go up.
