THINK YOU

YOU CAN'T

BE FOOLED?

Gregory

Well, if you are the typical person, you not only can be fooled, but you were fooled.  Read the above post again.

Identify how you were fooled.

NOTE:  This have been taken from Brain Games: The Game which comes from the National Geographic Channel.  It is a game for from two to four people to play and was a gift given to me yesterday.  If you wish to purchase the game it is available on the Internet and generally sells for $20 to $25.

For a second example, please read out loud the passage in the next post and count the number of time the letter "F" is printed in the text.   Most people do not get a correct count.

Hint:

Count the "fs":  The  typical person might count seven (7) "f's" in the above.  That is an incorrect number.

that's perplexing.  I counted 9 "f"s.  What two "f"s did people not count??

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Pam:  Your answer of 9 "f's" was correct.  Most people will get no more than eight (8).  [I was incorrect in writing seven.]  The one that most people will miss is the "f" in the word "of."

That word, when spoken, sounds like "ov".  So, the brain thinks of it as a "v" and not as a "f".

I will give you another challenge.  First read and then answer a question:

Read:  Sam is a butcher from Davenport, Iowa.  He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and he wears size 13 shoes.

Question:  So, what does he weigh?

Has anyone determined what the issue is with the opening post?   No one has responded to that one.

I think one of the reasons people don't "see" the extra "YOU" in the first post is because we are so very accustomed to seeing typos and mistakes over and over again. If we were to point out every grammatical and spelling error, we'd never stop. It's a more efficient use of time to just be "fooled" as you say and move on.

That is how our brain works.   You both are on target.

But, if you think about it for a minute, this also tells us something as to how our memory works, how we may perceive what is going on about us and the accuracy of what a witness says about something that they saw.

As I said, I have taken the above from a game that is based on a National Geographic Channel program and was a recent gift to me.   This game has some 192 of these brain challenges.  I just picked a couple that I could easily post here.

For those who really want to stretch your minds:

You are a farmer, who is coming home from the market.  You have with you a fox, a chicken and a bag of grain.  You come to a river and a boat which will hold yourself and one other item.  You must get yourself, the fox, chicken and the bag of grain across the river.  If you leave the fox and the chicken together  the fox will enjoy a nice meal of the chicken.    If you leave the chicken and the grain together, the chicken will have a nice meal of the grain.

How do you get the three across the  river along with yourself without one being eaten and yes, it can be done.

Here is another one that I think is easier than the above.

Take the following sentence and reword it into something familiar that says the same thing:

Positive aesthetic appeal is solely the equivalent of the thickness of the epidermis.

One last one for the moment, at least.  For people like me who are poor spellers  read the following aloud.  If you can do so, you win.  For  this one, I will give the answer.

Tahnks to the phaonmneal pweor of the human mind, it dseno't mtaetr whatr oerdr the ltteres of a word are in.  The olny imroamptnt thing is that the frsit and lasat ltteer be in the rghit pclae.  The rset can be a taotl mses and you can still raed it whotiut a pboerlm.

Ptrety azanming, huh?

If yur'oe albe to raed this, rsaie youor hnad!

ANSER:  Randomizing letters in the middle of words  has little or no effect on the ability of skilled readers to understand the text.  The important thing is that the first and last letters of the word be correct.

I actually didn't have a pboerlm reading, having been in printing for some 45+yrs, and some of that at the beginning typesetting with hot type! I used to be able to proofread, reading before I even ran the galley sheets!! I was even able to read others newspapers upside down and backwards! It takes me a little longer these days!! :)

Hint:   The first step is to take the chicken across the river.

Now outline the other steps.

I remember this one!! If I'm not mistaken, you take the chicken first, than go back take the fox, bring the chicken back with you, than take the grain, drop it off and than go back and get the chicken!

Phkarause, you have just been awarded 50 IQ points to add to what you already had.   :)    You are correct.  That is how you do it.
