Members phkrause Posted November 26, 2017 Members Posted November 26, 2017 One of the reasons that our life expectancy has gotten up there, I read, is because of all the preservatives in the food we eat!! aka Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 That's an interesting perspective, Peter. I was thinking more on the factors of DNA inheritance when it comes to longevity. I do know that fresh cheeses without additional preservatives can spoil in a matter of days. My husband loves working with oak wood. If the wood is properly treated with preservatives, it will not rot as quickly as cured white oak heartwood. I am assuming 'junk food' is a high source for preservatives. Could that mean those so live on such a diet should live on into their 90's? Quote

I remember a number of years ago my wife went to New Orleans, a work related thing, and we took a tour on one of her days off! The tour went to a cemetery, and there they made a comment about how people are taking longer to decompose, because of all the preservatives that are in our bodies!! I thought that was pretty funny. From what I understand, the cemeteries would bury about 6 or so people on top of each other? Not at the same time but after a number of months or so? But since people were not decomposing, I think that's the right word??, as fast as before preservatives were being put into food!! Anyway I could be wrong and not recalling it correctly?? Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 28, 2017 Moderators Posted November 28, 2017 Shoe X-ray machines: You went into the store, stepped up on a small platform and planted your feet in the designated spot. You then logged through the provided spot in the machine to view the picture and turned it on. Immediately a view of your two feet came into view with the bones in white and an outline of the shoe to see how your feet fit in the shoe. I thought it was something wonderful. Probably our genitals got a good exposure to the X-rays. Outta Here 1 Quote Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 28, 2017 Moderators Posted November 28, 2017 There are multiple Internet web sites that talk about those old shoe X-ray machines. Here is what one has to say: The nation's 10,000 shoe store fluoroscopes were notoriously poorly regulated during their heyday in the 40s and 50s. The U.S. Public Health Service said the average device emitted between 7 and 14 roentgens per dose, but one study found that some machines emitted as much as 116 roentgens. (For comparison, a person standing within 1500 meters of ground zero at Hiroshima got hit with more than 300 roentgens--admittedly throughout their entire bodies, not just their feet.) There is a predictable relationship between X ray exposure and excess cancer deaths. So we can safely say that some people died ahead of their time due to what was basically a sales gimmick. Shoe store fluoroscopes were typical of the careless and in some cases frivolous attitude toward X rays that prevailed for decades. X rays were once used to treat benign enlargements of the thymus, tonsils and adenoids, for instance, triggering many cases of thyroid cancer. Pregnant mothers and babies were routinely fluoroscoped by pediatricians, causing leukemia. In shoe stores, the people really at risk weren't the customers but the salespeople, who were exposed to radiation on a daily basis. (Both customer and salesperson, you may recall, had to lean over the cabinet of the fluoroscope to look in through viewports.) A cursory check has failed to turn up any studies on this score. But when they talk about an old shoe flogger having a certain glow, they probably aren't talking about his tan. Outta Here and phkrause 2 Quote Gregory
