A Strange Dream

The following story is true, in all of its details as it actually happened to me.  I have not attempted to analyze it in an attempt to determine meaning.  I will leave that to any of you who wish to do so.

Sometime in the late hours of the night, I entered into a dream state.  In that state I saw myself walking a narrow path going where I do not know.  As I considered my journey, I was reminded in my mind of the time in which our Lord lived, a time when their travel was often by walking and modern travel did not exist.

As I proceeded along on my journey, I realized that I could not complete it during the daylight hours and  so I lay down on ground beside the path planning to spend the night there.  As I reflected on my situation I was reminded of the story Christ told of the Good Samaritan who helped a traveler who had been attacked on a journey by thieves.  I hoped that I would not find myself in the same situation.

As I slept by the side of the path, a thief came by and seeing me lying there asleep, he began to roll me over in an attempt to steal my wallet.  This deeply frightened me as to the potential harm that might happen to me.  I decided that I must call for help in the hope that there might be some traveler who would take pity on me as happened in the parable of our Lord.

Twice I screamed out: "Help."

Out of the darkness of that hour, came a voice:  "Greg wake up.  You are having a bad dream."   It was my wife who had been awakened by my movements and had started rubbing my back, which I thought was the thief attempting to rob me.  She has informed me that twice I had screamed out something that could not be understood as any kind of a word in any known language.

This has made for interesting conversations between us throughout the day.  Nothing like this has ever happened before.

Be quiet.  It is not nice to let some cats out of the bag.

Never having had a dream that expressive, at least concerning specific  biblical stories, I can only suggest your desires to serve the Master have opened His heart to give you greater evidence of His soon return.

In my experience, my dreams (sometimes quite vivid) usually have had some connection to some actual events which have occurred in my life at some point.   Not always recent events; sometimes even something which happened in my childhood.

I don't know the connection between what we think about while awake and what we think about during sleep, but there must be some connection there somewhere.

To those who have enquired about my health:  I consider my physical health and my mental and emotional health to be within the normal range of healthy Americans.    :)  While understand that some may differ with me on this analysis, I will simply say:   You are entitled to your opinion and  I may even understand why you think such.   :)

I do not give a lot of stock in   dreams as I consider  some of the reality sections of our brains to be turned off in sleep.  So, yes, there may be some connection to actual events, but one that is devoid of reality.

My wife and I have had  fun talking about it and I thought that I would share it here.

As I read and reflect on your tale, I am reminded of Joel 2:28!

I'm in agreement with what Jeannieb43 posted above!! I've found that I have these crazy dreams only when I've eaten to close to going to bed!! I usually I try to eat no later than 6 pm. Now that doesn't mean that I don't have dreams when I don't eat too close to going to bed!! I just don't have those strange and weird ones!!

to this day I remember a dream I had when I was 6 yrs old:  I was outside on the campus of the University here trying to catch a frog with my Dad's top hat which Dad wore for his magician shows.  Instead of the grass being green, it was red.  And the frog I was trying to catch was about 4 ft tall.

Interestingly, the night before the dream, my Dad had brought home a frog he was dissecting in the Anatomy class — and he had just done a magic show for the Kiwanis Club.  My little 6-yr-old subconscious put both of those incidents together, and placed them in a venue (the grassy campus) that I loved.  The goofy things in the dream were the size of the frog, and the color of the grass.

lol ...  I hadn't thought of that dream in years...

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

As a child, I has two dreams, in one night,  that were weird.

I was away form home, at a Summer camp, in the Central California Conference.  I was probably about 10 to 12?

My first dream:  When I arrived home, I as told that my parents had sold our car and purchased another one.  True, that is exactly what happened when I came home.  This had a t ouch of reality as when I   went to camp, I knew that they were thinking about selling our care and getting another one.

As to my second one, the same night:  I was riding my bicycle along a sidewalk.  As I rode, I noticed a group of four or five (I do not remember exactly.) standard playing cards lying on the sidewalk.  I stopped.  As I looked at them I noted that they were specific cards, which I do not remember today.

Soon after I arrived home that is exactly what happened.  When riding my bicycle on the sidewalk, I saw the cards and they were exactly as I had seen in my dream.

I do not attempt to explain that.  Other than remembering it, I really have never given it any significant thought.  It just happened.  That was the end of it.  I just figured that I would never be able to explain it so I did not spend much thought about it.  Some things in life simply can not be explained and we do not need to explain everything.
