Female Veterans

NOTE:  This section is not supposed to discuss politics.  Therefore, this thread is not intended to discuss whether or not females should serve in the military.

*  There are currently about 2,000,000 female veterans and another 200,000 who are  currently on active duty.

*  Presently, about 30% more women are enlisting in the military than were doing so in 2000.

*  Female veterans have higher rates of cancer, mental illness, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and depression than do females who are not veterans.

*  8% of female veterans report having suicidal thoughts over the past four years which is almost twice that of female non-veterans.

* About 13% of female  veterans have had cancer compared for 11% of female non-veterans.

*  About 33% of female veterans have reported mental illness compared with 22% of female non-veterans.

It takes a very special female to enter the military.  My granddaughter is finishing her first year of Medical cadet training.  I hope she doesn't fall into the ill categories mentioned.  It is definitely not for me.

Medical Cadet Training:   This is a SDA program, which   I thought was no longer being taught in the U.S.   Certainly there  would be no reason for her to ever enter the military as it was primarily for people subject to the Draft, which did not include females.   

Are you perhaps talking about ROTC?

I just noticed you write from Canada.  Does the Canadian SDA Church do differently in this respect than we do in the U.S?
