The Record Keeper

The Record Keeper is a film that was produced by Seventh-day Adventists.  It attempts to tell the story of The Great Controversy in modern terms.  To a large degree, it was funded by the General Conference.  It has become controversial as to whether or not it accurately reflects appropriate views of End Time.

The result of this controversy is that the film is not widely available.  It is not often publicly shown in North America.  But, is seems to be more available in some of Europe.

However, this 2+  hour film can be viewed on the Internet at:

It is rather controversial, interesting, but controversial.
Some powerful thoughts are portrayed in the movie, and the aim is to make the "behind the scenes" battle between good and evil more real.

Yet, the contrast between good and evil isn't that great in the movie.
Loyal angels were pretty primitive, and if that "office" was heavenly, it sure didn't look heavenly, at times it looked kind of creepy.
Maybe the recording office wasn't in heaven -- but an office for the recorder angel down here on earth, which would allow for it's rather dismal appearance and also allow  for evil angels to enter?

There really wasn't much "heavenly" things depicted --

Though the acting was pretty good.

There were some theological issues:
It  seemed to indicate that the fallen angels could still have been saved right up till Christ's crucifixion.
And what did happen to Lars the fallen angel who went shooting off into the universe?

What is interesting is to see how the story line kind of parallels some modern science fiction books that seem to be popular with young people.
Those books tend to run along the theme of the dragon kingdom being threatened with an invasion that would destroy their kingdom and they were using all kinds of maneuvers and super natural means to stop the invasion and save their kingdom.  Those books tend to turn the great controversy upside down (exactly how satan wants it)

Yet according to inspiration  the battle between good angels and fallen angels is real -- though the depictions of it in novels and films are speculative.

I guess I would like to see more of God's goodness  depicted.

Also a person needs to be familiar with Bible stories to make sense of some of the scenes.

Good angel seemed to have some problems, like fighting with the fallen angel, simply on emotional impulse over something that was said.
There was even footage of a good angel choking the fallen angel to death -- then saying it was just a dream trigged by seeing the first death (probably referring to Cain killing Abel)

The "good" angel finally gets promoted (reminds one of the popular movies where angels have to earn their wings).

So, on the one hand, it could be used in some audiences for good, especially for young people who are into the science fiction reversal novels of the great controversy.   Though it would need considerable explaining to show how it is based on biblical themes.  People without considerable Bible knowledge would probably think it just an intriguing science fiction film.

As to an evangelistic tool -- I would not recommend it as a wide spectrum evangelistic tool.

From what we studied in classes at AUC it appears that Mrs. White saw first the chaos here just before God said "Let there be light" (and is indicated in some of the terminology in Genesis 1 and 2) to be the point were the two sided were formed, based on faith and evidence before proof came when the spirit of God hovered over this chaos and had a special 7 days giving proof to the angels and other worlds that God is indeed creator. And that she saw the Cross as when all beings, except for humans, closed their probation. There is also evidence in Revelation, and other places in the Bible for this as well.

Would really appreciate if you could share the reference to this.

Rev. 12:7-10 may be the portion in the Revelation referred to.

Whatever media people experience, whatever news event, whatever justice or injustice people witness or understand, hearts are making micro decisions.  We are  influenced  and you cannot judge everyone who experiences this movie and say that it is evil and no one will be awakened to higher considerations from this story line.

From it's inception and development sin causes suffering and pain, in the universe, to the heart of God, to the angelic host, the lost and the saved, and to the entire human race.  Sin is not glorified in this movie.

The purpose of this movie is not a theological expose.  No one is suggesting you go to this movie for theological accuracy, and it was also not designed to aligned perfectly with EG White statements.  This movie portrays the impact of Love and the impact of sin in the universe.
