Absolute Truth

In another thread, Sauliga made a statement which I will quote below.

I find it very interesting and believe that it would be worthy of discussion.  I have invited Sauliga to join and contribute to this discussion.

There is absolute truth that we need to strive to towards.

Two questions to which I would like to see Sauliga respond:

*  What to you mean by the term, "absolute truth.?"

*  Within your meaning of the term, do you believe that any person can reach an absolute knowledge   of any truth?

To know and understand the absolute truth of the Love and mercy of God perfectly challenges the fallen mind.  God is absolutely loving and merciful toward utterly guilty and fallen mankind.  This is incomprehensible and can really only be experienced to be glimpsed.  Only aided by the work of the holy Spirit can we even come near to God.  yes God is with every human being, but we have such an impossible challenged to turn toward God.  Not by power nor by might but by My Spirit, says the Lord.

Yes God is a God of Justice,  And righteous high and lifted up, yet merciful and gracious, patient and kind to the undeserving.

Truly only by Love is Love awakened.

Love awakens love.

Let God be true and every man a liar.

Debbym:  As I understand your response, you are telling us that "absolute truth" is part of the central nature of God and that it can not be fully understood by fallen humanity.

David,  that dictum may be absolute truth.  But, that does not tell us what absolute truth is.

The redeemed will spend the rest of eternity studying deeper and deeper into the absolute truth of God -- it's not a subject with a graduation date.

And yet -- isn't truth like a "path"?  If we are on the wrong path can we journey on to ever fuller knowledge of truth?  That's probably where most of the "debate"  takes place as try to get on the right path.  How do we know we are on the right path?

I fully agree that God is Love and without love, truth isn't really truth.   But then we ask, what is the absolute truth about love?
Humanity has some rather divergent ideas about love.  Yes, John 3:16 is the biggest example of God's love and should draw us to God.   Yet, how does it define absolute truth?
Does the Islamic mother who encourages her child to become a suicide bomber demonstrate absolute truth?

There is an intricate balance between knowledge of the scripture, being led by the Holy Spirit, and filled with God's love, that leads to "absolute truth".

It's a very serious question!

Matt. 7:13-14
Wide is the gate and broad the way to destruction, and many travel that way,
For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

1 Corinthians 13 says, "9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless."

until heaven with recreated wonderful brains... then we will comprehend what we cannot comprehend now.

it is my view... that unaided by the Holy Spirit we do not comprehend even partial and incomplete truth.

David:  You are correct.  I am equating "absolute truth" in the sense of the entirety of truth on that subject, with nothing more to be learned on that subject.  That is why in an earlier post I suggested that it was important to know how we defined those terms that we were using.

As I come from a human and imperfect background, I do not believe that there will ever be a time in this human existence in which I will know everything about some spiritual truth with nothing more that needs to be learned.  IOW, in my humanity, I will  always have more to learn  on every spiritual issue to include knowledge of God.  I  do not see any doctrinal teaching as being absolutely true in the sense that there is nothing more to learn about it.
