Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 19, 2018 Moderators Posted January 19, 2018 The Metro Denver SDA Newday congregation, a part of the Rocky Mountain Conference (RMC), has split. It continues to meet at 11:00 AM on Saturdays in its previous location. In addition, it now meets in a second location in the Park Hill area of Denver, at 4:00 PM and on Saturdays. This second location is a joint project between the Newday congregation and a SDA Congregation that goes by the name Park Hill SDA Church, which is a member of the Central States Conference of SDAs (CSC). NOTE: Colorado is served by two administrative divisions of the SDA Church. The Rocky Mountain Conference was the original Conference serving Colorado. The Central States Conference was formed years ago to serve African American SDAs. As I understand it, the 2nd Newday congregation remains a part of the RMC. This 2nd congregation, is a joint project of the two pastors and their congregations in which they are working together in a joint effort that is believed will benefit SDA ministry in the Metro Denver area. This effort to work beyond administrative boundaries is probably unique although there are prior examples of joint evangelistic efforts on a larger scale. This is a joint effort is probably unique in that it involves two congregations while crossing administrative boundaries. Quote Gregory
stinsonmarri Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I don't quite understand, why did they split? Happy Sabbath and blessings! Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 20, 2018 Author Moderators Posted January 20, 2018 This is not a negative split in which a congregation splits into two fighting groups. Rather it is a split that is designed to increase its mission outreach and to unite with a SDA congregation from another Conference to join together in mission outreach. It is not a division into seperate units. Rather it is a Union. The Newday congregation now operates in two locations in order to increase it effectiveness. As part of that, the Edit Central States Park HIll SDA Congregation has united to join with the Newday congregation at the one location. JoeMo and phkrause 2 Quote Gregory
JoeMo Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I would describe this loosely as a church "plant" rather than a church "split". I have been a participant in two church plants by the Denver South SDA Church. One eventually departed from the Conference; and now (unfortunately) is a "Sunday church" and has abandoned most SDA Fundamentals. The plant I currently support is a small, dedicated band of seekers. We teach from a single chapter of scripture every week - sometimes for a couple hours. Since we are so small, we don't have a paid pastor; we all take turns preaching, teaching, providing music, and sharing a meal together every Sabbath. It's the best church (outside of Adventistan, of course!) that I have ever participated in. KInda like a home church where everybody actively participates. We are united in our passion for God and wanting to know more about Him; although not necessarily uniform in the details of our faith. But that's okay - it generates much fruitful discussion with no judgement or conflict. phkrause 1 Quote
