Zarf

For all you Scrabble players there is a new word available when you have the letter “Z” on your tile holder. The word is “zarf.” If you are wondering what “zarf” means welcome to the vast majority. Very few people know.

What has happened is the U. S. government has declassified the word. It can now become part of the great body of English words. The problem is they have not declassified the meaning of the word. “Zarf” was part of some government secret and they only released the word but not the meaning of the word. The meaning is still a secret.

I sort of like secrets. There is a bit of mystical intrigue and fun about knowing something others don’t know. Sometimes we see ads in magazines inviting us to write for a book that will reveal to us the secrets of life. They say it is free but as we all know there surely is a catch somewhere, just like the magazine sweepstakes.

The tricky thing here is there does seem to be some secrets to life. These secrets usually are unavailable to us when we are young and we have to log a few decades before they are revealed to us. I am of course referring to the need to take good care of our bodies and minds. Somehow we think we can abuse ourselves with poor living habits and we will not pay the price. But little by little we use up our wealthy supplies of health and vitality except some people use it up really fast.

The real secret to life is Jesus. He and only He offers an endless supply.

This is such a fun word. You can impress your friends with your knowledge of this everyday item <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

A zarf is a holder, with or without a handle, for a glass or cup that is too hot to hold. It can also represent an insulated cup holder for keeping drinks cold

Apparently they were/are popular in Europe and the Middle Eastern countries, where tea is served in glasses. Here is a photo of some Russian ones:

Those paper sleeves that you get for paper coffee cups are zarfs (zarves?)

This made perfect sense to me, as I knew from a travel program I saw once that in N. Africa they make mint tea in glasses by grabbing a handful of fresh mint, stuffing it into a glass and adding the hot water
