Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 9, 2018 Moderators Posted May 9, 2018 The following article reports on the 2nd day of a conference on clinical ethics. This article has a minor focus on abortion. I remind you that this forum has previously engaged in a substantial discussion of abortion. After extended discussion, that subject has been closed for discussion. It is not my intent to open up that discussion again. However, I believe that it is important for our members to be informed as to what is happening. Therefore, I believe that it is of value to report on this current SDA Conference. In your comments, please do not hijack the discussion to that of abortion. https://spectrummagazine.org/article/2018/05/09/adventist-bioethics-consortium-day-2 Quote Gregory
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted May 9, 2018 Members Posted May 9, 2018 is the "Adventist Health System" actually under the umbrella of the SDA church, or is it a separate entity unto itself? (Having recently worked at one of their facilities, I was dismayed at the lack of professionalism, the incompetence of those "in charge," and the gossip of fellow employees behind their backs. Horrible place to work.) Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 9, 2018 Author Moderators Posted May 9, 2018 As I understand it, the connection is loose. At one time, the SDA hospitals were legally under the same system of authority as were the SDA congregations, Conferences, etc. Some years back, in order to prevent a lawsuit award against a SDA hospital from bringing down the churches, steps were taken to spin off the clinical parts into a legal organization separate from that of the churches. The result, as I understand it, is that the clinical care facilities may have SDA church leadership on their Boards, but the Church does not control that actions of the clinical section. In a real sense, the clinical sections have a lot of independence. rudywoofs (Pam) 1 Quote Gregory
