The Korean War

With the efforts of President Trump to end the Korean War (Yes, it has not been ended.), North Korea is  in the news.  It might be well to review some of the facts:

*  The Korean War began on June 25, 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea.

*  Active combat ceased on July 27, 1953 with the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, which was not the end to the war.

*  1,800,000 Americans served in the military operations in Korea during the period of active combat operations.

*  36,574 of those died in combat operations.

*  During the combat operations, nearly 5,000,000 people died as a result of the war.  About half of them were civilians.

*  The Korean War was popularized by the TV series MASH, which ended on February 25, 1983.  Some 125,000,000 people watched that last episode of MASH.

NOTE:  A personal statement from me:  All to often the elected officials of our government send our men and women into combat without understanding the cost, in both human terms and financial costs, and budgeting for the care that our returning veterans will need over the years.  Military action should not be our first response.  Anyone who thinks that nuclear war is the answer in combat operations simply does not understand the issues raised in combat operations.

I was in the army from FEB 1968 UNTIL SEPT 1970

I  was in KOREA for 18 months===my unit was on guarding the DMZ

Thank you for your service.

Over two (2) assignments, I spent 35 months in Korea.  I spent 12 months assigned to a unit with a DMZ mission.

It sounds like he has PTSD.

PTSD  can be treated and is treated by the VA.

I would hope that he can be evaluated by the VA for treatment.
