Quora

Quora is an international forum in which people ask questions and others post answers.

I have been participating since mid-January, 2018 and I have posted answers to 593 questions and my answers have been read 67,100 times.

I was notified a few minutes ago that one of the people who post in this forum has just joined Quora.

So, I am opening this thread for any people who post in Quora who would like to talk about their experiences in that forum to share them here    in this thread.

NOTE: I generally post answers in Quora to the following areas:  religion,  Seventh-day Adventism,  Ellen White, science, biology, the Bible, evolution, the U.S. military and  the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

In mid-January I received an e-mail from Quora asking me to participate and sending me a question that Quora assumed I could answer.  I had never heard of Quora and assumed that it was a scam.  I checked it out and discovered that it was not a scam.  So, I decided that there must be some meaning attached to the unsolicited request that I had been sent, and I joined.

NOTE:  I have since learned that Quora actively solicits people to join and respond to questions.    It does so from people who are otherwise active on the Internet.

I regularly am sent questions to answer.  I  respond to some and I do not respond to others.  I also respond to questions that have been generally posted for anyone to answer and have not been sent to me.

Quora is not actively moderated.  By that I mean, that any post you make is immediately posted for the world to read.  However, every post that you make will be quickly read by a moderator.  You may be asked to change your post and/or to further explain what you have said.  In addition, the question to which you are responding may be changed to more closely relate to what you have posted, such as you going off on a tangent.  If your post is full of errors, you may be asked to correct them.  However, minor errors are allowed to stand.  In addition, the question and your response may be placed in a suspended situation where other posts can not be added at that time.  But, generally, multiple responses may be made to a question.

I have been involved in extensive conversations with others as to something that I had posted.  As long as those  conversations have remained civil, they have been allowed.

I have  often been asked to comment on a person, group, or position on which I have strong convictions.  I have taken the position that I am not going to engage in negative  posts.  So, I such situations, I simply state such and them make a simple statement to the effect that I do not   agree with that person, group or position.    In short, my position is to post a positive statement of what I think.

I have a hard time being impressed with Quora (I've been a member since it started quite a number of years ago).... most of it is just for entertainment, rather than a true seeking of knowledge, imho.
