Partisan Judges & Prosecuters

I am not a lawyer but since our legal system is to strictly interpret and apply the law, why are political parties allowed to endorse and run canidates for judge and prosecuter positions?

When a judge carries an "R" or a "D" after his or her name, that just screams bias for someone who actually needs to be unbias in order to do the job. A law should be passed which would prevent those seeking such positions from recieving an endorsement or campaign funds from political party.

Now I believe we have a number of lawyers on this forum... what say you? Do I need another prespective?
