Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 1, 2006 Administrators Posted May 1, 2006 When is enough, enough? Check this out from NBC's First Read : "President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution," reports Sunday's Boston Globe. " Among the laws Bush said he can ignore are military rules and regulations, affirmative-action provisions, requirements that Congress be told about immigration services problems, ''whistle-blower' protections for nuclear regulatory officials, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded research." Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Stan Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Had a conversation with a person from Uganda, she claims she left the country because the elected president was really a dictator.( I think he has done Uganda good over the years.) Asked her why he was a dictator, and it was because he can ignore the laws of the country whenever he chooses.. Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted May 2, 2006 Moderators Posted May 2, 2006 Just because some of a dictator's actions are "good" doesn't mean he's not acting improperly. [that is, if the Constitution under which he was elected requires a democratic form of government!] We need to call a spade a spade, here. Neil D Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 We have seen dictators that were good, and allowed a lot of freedom under thier rule and, more importantly, were honest in thier dealings with the public they served. More often though, we see a dictator that takes a bit more from the people than he gives, and it hurts the people. That is why our country chose a new form of goverment, 'for the people, by the people.' But even then, we have enefectual [sp] goverment, ie Carter's administration, and we have people who are just out to enrich thier own pockets or not do anything for the people, ie current goverment. Which is worse, I am not sure...seems to me though the current goverment is NOT doing as much as it could and is deliberately forcing people to be more productive to the point that it is hurting familys and the communitees. But, that is my opinion.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
