Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted October 28, 2018 Moderators Posted October 28, 2018 NOTE: My learning point for today. Why is the sky dark at night? Why is it not as bright as it is at noon? Why is the sky during the day only as bright as it is and why is not brighter? Behind this question is the observation that the Earth is constantly bathed in starlight--night and day. This is not a trick question. It is a valid question and the answer is that we do not know. This answer is derived from what in known in astronomy as Olbers' Paradox (Olber: 1758-1840) which tells us that some of what we claim to know about the universe is wrong. Of the multiple answers that one could give to this question, some are clearly in error and the best of them are only partially correct. Well, if you can come up with an accepted definitive answer . . . . . .. Quote Gregory
