Quote

At least half of all traumatized people try to dull their intolerable inner world with drugs or alcohol. - Van der Kolk, Bessel,  The Body Keeps the Score, p.268

What does this tell you when, as a Christian, you encounter someone with an addiction to drugs or drink? Is telling them to stop enough?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I had never heard of this fellow till now, but he knows what he is talking about. I guess he lives in Vancouver now?

I believe he practices in the East end. I asked my daughter if she has met him but she hasn’t. She just recommends his work.

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

IDK if anyone has ever said it before; but I have sometimes wondered, can "Bible study" be an "addiction" in some cases?

I am sure.

I am beginning to think very seriously about how I, how we as Jesus followers, look at addicts. Freeing the captives is more than taking the drugs away. The bondage is much deeper. The drugs are secondary and the addiction a symptom.

The quote just floors me... How many people out there have an intolerable inner world?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
