What Bush & The Republicans Need

It looks like the Democrats will likely take control of at least one of the houses of Congress which will result in a public debate of what distinguishes the two parties.

Since the Democrat party is now controled by its extreamists (Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, etc.), It may hurt their presidencial hopes in 2008. If the Democrats take control of Congress... "The party would also be under increased pressure to come up with its own solutions to the problems afflicting the country: what to do in Iraq, how to deal with high gas prices and the budget deficit." A Democrat majority in Congress could help the President recover from his bad poll numbers just as the Republican Majority pushed President Clinton from bad poll numbers to being re-elected two years later.

On the other hand, some level of oversight and investigation in the the corruption of the Republican party members (not even so much Bush himself but the Cunninghams, Delays and others) over the next couple of years might have the opposite result: hard to call it either way. To be honest, if Bush's poll numbers stay low enough to stop him from launching a war in Iran until he's out of office that'll be a good outcome. One of my American friends is convinced something will happen that will end up with a third Bush term, though... he hasn't convinced me.
