whbae Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 As time goes by the practice of adventism have been changing in many ways. They are good or bad, I do not know. Even up to 5 or 6 years ago our church did not celebrate the Ester and Christmas TOO MUCH, but now these occasions are heavily celebrated by elaborate decorations and plays, etc. Olden day the SDAs did not celebrate those events claiming those were the origin of pagan celebrations. Did we change this view or are we confirming with the rest of christianity? I have not opinion about this matter except I am confused. Were the people of old adventism wrong in not celebrating these events? Should I dare to ask if Satan is creeping into our church? I wonder if anyone can give me some opinion. Thanks. Quote
JoeMo Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Good question. In my 44 years as an Adventist, all the churches always had a Christmas Tree; and on the Sabbath closest to Christmas everyone would bring an envelope with i special offering to Jesus. But this is the first year an SDA church I attended had a Christmas Eve service. It was mostly a community outreach centered around Jesus, so I thought it was great. I've never been to (or heard of) an SDA Christmas Day service. I have also never seen an SDA Easter morning service. I think that's too bad, because the Resurrection is a much more significant religious event than Christmas (at least to me). We have had Holy Thursday plays of the Last Supper followed by foot-washing and Communion, though. I do wonder sometimes if we should be putting more emphasis on the Feasts that God commanded His people to keep back in the "early days" (like Passover, First Fruits, Pentecost, Yom Kippur, Feast of Tabernacles, etc.) From my read of the prophecies, we will at least be keeping some of these festivals in the Kingdom. dgrimm60 Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 WHBAE I have been in several S.D.A. churches in many states both north and south each S.D.A. seem to act differently about this time of year====the Christmas programs that the churches did was having some people read the bible story about JESUS BIRTH and singing Christmas songs===I have not see any special program dealing with EASTER in any S.D.A church====I do believe that a lot of the worldly ideas or Catholic ideas are coming to the church but we as true followers of the bible truths and GOD must stand up against these ideas ===the devil is trying to destroy all and any thing to do with the true bible truths and misrepresent GOD ==JESUS===HOLY SPIRITS character. dgrimm60 Quote
