A Simple Equation # 2

Since my first post was appreciated by some, I will give you a 2nd example.  This one, I have written and it can be solved in your head.  (I did not write the first.)

 

X  +  X  =  3X

Solve for X.

 Yes, it can be done.

It can be  done in your head.

Subtract 2x from each side

0  =  X

Let's step up a little:

(X x X) - 2X + 1 = 0

The quadratic formula is my friend. ?

Though this could be done without it.

I get X = 1 (and I checked by subbing it back into the original equation)
