The above quotation is from the article to which Gregory linked, and in my opinion, is an aphorism for the ages.

I grew up in a household and congregation where righteous indignation was de rigueur after a sermon, musical performance or dramatic presentation. A singer's choice of song, musical arrangement, style of interpretation and attire were all fair game for criticism. Invariably the pastor will have said something to offend someone. And should someone opt for a dramatic presentation or a "reader's theatre" format, not only the content but the very choice of artistic genre was susceptible to cause indignation.

Although such righteous indignation was a hebdomadal occurrence and thus most have been forgotten, two or three such instances remain vivid in my memory. Once the regular pastor ceded the pulpit to a guest speaker and quipped that they can do without his (the regular pastor's) sermon since "the poor ye have with you always". The use of scripture in humour ("red-letter" scripture no less) was enough to trigger the righteous indignation of several. Once the pastor shared an experience he had witnessing to a golfing partner. Naturally some of the brethren felt that a pastor ought not to participate in such frivolity as the game of golf.

This situation regarding someone who does not approve of wrong doing in the church reminds of some words of Ahab in a converstaion with Jehoshaphat. And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him? And the king of Israel (Ahab) said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. (1 Kings 22)

Too much, things being done in the church today parallels eerily the wickedness done in ancient Israel.

When I responded to Wanderer's posts last nite, it was in a general sense of the topic. Today, when I had to be out of town, I took a hard copy of the article in the OP. I have little to say except how sad it was to see the atoday editor spend his time trashing Janet Lundeen Neumann. I was aghast reading this article. I have watched Neumann's video presentations before and was impressed with the way she presented her material.

Truly, the Holy Spirit is leaving people who call themselves by God's name and it is sad beyond words.
