Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 8, 2019 Moderators Posted May 8, 2019 Derrick Nelson was the principal of a New Jersey High School and a Chief Warrant Officer-2 in the 411th Reserve Chemical Company in Edison, New Jersey. Out of a desire to do more for people, he agreed to donate bone marrow, if he could match with someone. that time came when he was matched with a French teen. The surgical procedure took place this last February. The French teen was given the gift of life. As he said, when he reported his intention to donate in the school newspaper: "If it's just a little bit of pain for a little bit of time that can give someone years of joy, it's all worth it." During the surgery, this last February, he went into cardiac arrest, from which he never recovered. He died on April 8 of this year. NOTE: My information was obtained from: "Warrant Officer dies after Donating Bone Marrow," Army Times, 4/29/2019, page 6. Quote Gregory
