Who condemned Jesus?

Just listening to the audio Remedy New Testament, which is a paraphrase by Dr. Tim Jennings.

In Matthew 27, Jesus is arrested and interrogated by...  the senior pastors, theologians, and local politicians.

That’s pretty familiar language! We have people today that are persecuted by senior pastors, theologians, and local politicians.

While Jesus had a rocky relationship with the Pharisees, it was the Sadducees who had Jesus arrested and had the Sadduceen (or kangaroo)  court. The Sadducee courts would have 23 elders of the Sanhedrin  usually all Sadducee  with the high Priest to make 24 elders, they would purposely have a mock trial with witnesses who contradicted each other as being part the mockery. Then they would usually drag their victim out and stone them to death. (Only the Roman's were allowed to use Crucifixion but they were not the only ones allowed to put to death). 

Now, if the Sadducee's victim was too popular they would bring them to the Roman governor (who they were paying the money from the money changing system in the Temple to bribe) who would crucify them. They understood the Old Testament verse "Cursed is anyone who dies on a tree" as meaning that only God's enemies would hang on a tree. Hanging a religious leader on a tree would be seen as a sandal on the same level as if you were to catch a pastor stealing the church funds or having an affair or anything else that could spoil a reputation. 

Despite the problems between Jesus and the Pharisees, they tended to be honest people who would have wanted to look for a real reason for a court decision, and among the different schools of the Pharisees they often could not agree.

The Bible contains many stories of Jesus socializing with Pharisees.  His greatest apostle was a Pharisee.  I don't recall a single Bible story of Jesus socializing with Sadducees.  Maybe it made Him sad, you see?

If believe that Jesus may have identified with true Pharisees; while He reviled the hypocritical ones.

Yes indeed. We even have record of a Pharisee who told Jesus that Herod wanted to see him, that Pharisee risked his life to warn Jesus.  

The Sadducees were corrupt puppets of Rome, who bribed Rome to remain in power. When Jesus cleaned the temple, the money changers were raising money to pay Pilate's bribery money.
