First point is that this computer will get packed in a box in about 2 weeks, and stay there for about 2 months. I'll still get on the net now and then, but my participation in the forum will be considerably reduced. On June 14-15 the movers will come in and pack up everything from our house that we're not taking with us as baggage, and one the 16th we'll fly to San Francisco. We'll in in Palo Alto (I have commitments at Stanford) from June 16-26, so if there are any members of this forum in that area who'd like to meet up during that time, drop me a PM. After that we'll fly to LA, drive to Disneyland for a couple of days and the San Diego Zoo for a day, then back to LA to fly to Sydney. The girls will stay with their grandparents near Sydney for a week but Sue and I will fly straight on to Brisbane, arriving July 2. We'll immediately be looking for a car to buy and a house to rent, before the kids join us. Our belongings won't arrive for at least another month, so we'll keep on living out of suitcases. It's all fun, and a great adventure... and we'll talk to you all on the other side of it! Quote Truth is important

We will miss you but our prayers will be with you and the family for safe travels on all legs. I hope your trip is enjoyable, without accident or even any lost luggage along the way. If you're planning only one day to go to San Diego and see the zoo, don't forget to add in some extra time for travel. The freeways are so overcrowded these days that it's become impossible to drive round-trip from L.A. to San Diego and back, all in one day and still have time to do anything much while you're there. Much as I love everyone here, they just can't quite compete with the beauty of a cheetah. <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> We have a day and a night at San Diego, so we'll likely drive down very early in the morning or in the evening to miss the rush hour traffic, but at the zoo all day and then stay over and drive back up to LA the following morning. They packed and stored 90% of their belongings in Taiwan and only brought clothing etc back to the US. Apparently the hardest part was getting their two girls to choose 3 toys each to bring back with them. Moderators Bravus Posted June 2, 2006 Author Moderators Posted June 2, 2006 I imagine I'll have some access, but not much time, while I'm at Stanford, and I just found out I'll get a new laptop as soon as I get to Australia, so it might be more like two weeks than two months that I'll go quiet for... The Stanford thing I'll be at the Carnegie Foundation. I'm a 2005-2006 Carnegie Scholar in Teaching and Learning, and part of that is working with the other 20 Scholars as well as some very well-known people in our field like Lee Shulman at three 'residence' sessions at Stanford. These were in June 2005, January 2006 and this last one in June 2006. So I'll get to see the wonderful people from all over the US (I'm the first ever Scholar from a Canadian institution and there's one scholar this year from Ireland) and all sorts of colleges and universities - everything from theologicans to historians to civil engineers - to talk about what we've done over the past year to improve our teaching and learning.
