BlessedMan Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 How does The Word of God Reveal God? Sounds like a pretty straight-forward question, so far. Or, is it? The question first came up to me earlier today when I was studying a book that said "God created everything ex-nihilio"; supposedly meaning that He "created everything, out of nothing." And the author of the book said that Psalms 33:6 "proves" that point: Quote "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth." (KJV) Now, the first thing that should be noticed here is that that text of Psalms 33:6 does not say "out of nothing," or 'ex nihilo," by any stretch of the imagination. And that's what got me thinking about this question: just how does God's Word reveal God to us today? Admittedly, this is starting to sound like something a little "outside the box" here, but let's talk about that. Just how does God's Word reveal God? Some of the answers to that are very interesting; and now that I am looking into it , it's amazing to see the story unfold. When we think of it; Adam & Eve were not really created "out of nothing," (Gen 1:27, Gen 2:21-25), and so why would it be different for any of the other parts of creation? Apparently, the earth was already in existence, at the time of creation. Scripture describes it as being "without form and void," (Gen 1:2), and then, God did His amazing works of creation. So "Biblically," nothing was made from nothing! We have to be careful to check out the references of anything we read. So, how does The Word of God reveal God? TBC Quote (2 Cor 1:3-4) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. Then I can get a better idea of what I'd like to say about that statement, thanks!! 15 hours ago, BlessedMan said: "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth." (KJV) Why does it have to say exactly what you want it to say? Because when I read that statement I can imagine in my mind nothing and than something out of nothing!! 15 hours ago, BlessedMan said: Now, the first thing that should be noticed here is that that text of Psalms 33:6 does not say "out of nothing," or 'ex nihilo," by any stretch of the imagination. I have no problem believing it!! 15 hours ago, BlessedMan said: When we think of it; Adam & Eve were not really created "out of nothing," (Gen 1:27, Gen 2:21-25), and so why would it be different for any of the other parts of creation? So "Biblically," nothing was made from nothing! Again I'm in agreement with you there, and when I read those first few verses in Genesis 1, I do get the feeling that there was something there. Now having said that, do we believe that in creating our little part of the vast universe or do we actually believe that he created the whole universe at the same time?? I kind of feel at times, when I hear some, that there were parts of the universe created at different times and maybe our system was the last piece of the creation. Like when we read those first words in the Bible and he's creating our earth, that yes it was there being void and sitting there, so at that particular moment it was something from something, but maybe previously nothing was there and he put something there and thought, I'll come back to that later?? Just a thought!! stinsonmarri 1 Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

It has nothing to do with what "I want" it to say. I made a simple observation that the claim using Psalms 33:6 simply does not say what the author of said book wants it to say. Are you able to show why he was correct in using that particular text to "prove" God created something out of nothing? I dont think it can be denied that Psalms 33:6 just doesnt say that at all. I did provide other relative texts to show the context, and would now add the caveate that Psalms 33:6 is a pretext, rather than a proof text, when used like this to say something that it doesn't say. Its just not there is all I am saying. 17 minutes ago, phkrause said: When we think of it; Adam & Eve were not really created "out of nothing," (Gen 1:27, Gen 2:21-25), and so why would it be different for any of the other parts of creation? (quote by BlessedMan) Why is it so important for you to believe the something from nothing deal? 18 minutes ago, phkrause said: when I read that statement I can imagine in my mind nothing and than something out of nothing!! Well; I guess you have a vivid imagination; but my point was to just get people thinking about how we use the scriptures to say things in doesn't; and even more than this; I was looking for ideas on just what does the Bible tell us about God? It looks to me like there are things we are just "imagining." Its eternal life to know God, and whom He has sent; (John 17:3) and so in my mind, this would include the ways that we use scripture to "prove" things that we can "imagine" but are not in fact there. Does Psalms 33:6 tell us that God created "something out of nothing" or does it tell us something else? phkrause 1 Quote (2 Cor 1:3-4) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
