The mangoes I've eaten here in California have the same poison in the skin that is in poison oak and ivy. I read it somewhere, so it must be true <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. I am very reactive to poison oak, in fact have a patch on my arm right now, delivered by my dog. I could almost tell that the mangoes in VI would not do that to me (skins didn't make my lips tingle), and they didn't. Quote LD

LD--I had a HUGE poison ivy reaction in MI after carrying brush to the curb--the whole side of my face, neck, shoulder, upper chest, entire arm--had to go through two treatments of whatever the doctor gave me--unbelievable! Now when I eat mangoes, I have to take my wedding band off, eat them really quickly, then totally wash my hands several times, and I still get a little itching around my ring finger (but when I forget to take the ring off, oh, my goodness! i can't even wear it for a week waiting for the pain and itching to subside!). I grew up with no poison ivy, so it took me a couple of times to really get sensitized to it in MI (and I still never could spot it--just had to hope that I wasn't coming in contact with it anywhere, and I usually DID!), and then, wow! So I can sympathize. however, I still eat mangoes. I'm just super careful and put hydrocortisone on my finger for several days (always affects that one area, for some odd reason). I guess I'll know what to eat on my next (ha ha) trip to VI! M Quote
