Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted April 15, 2020 Moderators Posted April 15, 2020 Each year, there are two major meetings that are held by the General conference. On, the so-called Spring Meeting began yesterday (April 14) and continues today. The agenda for this meeting extends to 49 pages and may be accessed at: https://executivecommittee.adventist.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20SM-Electronic.pdf My opinion of the Agenda: In many ways, it looks like "busy work" to me. I would think that the General Conference could find a better use of scarce resources than to expend time, effort and funds to bring people in from other places to discuss some of the trivia that seems to me to be on the agenda. Well, the good thing that I see in the future, is that the forced reduction in income to the General Conference may force it to better use its resources. How would I reduce? Well I would give more local authority for final decisions. As an example: I do not believe that it is necessary for this Committee to vote that on November 21, 2020, the local congregation should take up an offering for the local congregational budget. Regardless of how this is voted, the local congregation is going to do as it pleases as far as an offering on that day. In any case, it is not worth the time and money expended on this meeting for SDA leaders to vote such an issue. Personally, I question whether people who think that such votes should occupy their time understand the work and mission of this denomination in End Time well enough to serve in their positions. I will suggest that we may need to cut the General Conference budget more. phkrause and Kevin H 2 Quote Gregory
