I have been reading 1 Samuel this week and have flinched when reading certain stories. Like Israel under Sauls leadership wiping out a whole nation, or David getting 200 foreskins in order to win the heart of Saul's daughter.

Whilst I realise much of the context of scripture is about plot rather than character (apart from Jesus obviously) it is amazing how much of it can really through you into a spin, if you are unable to see it within the context of the culture within which it was written.

Whilst remnants of such culture (See middle east conflicts) still reflect this kind of mindset it still seems a tad alien out of kilter with 21st Century Christianity.

It has to do with the Eastern mind and culture's understanding of Blood Covenanting and what it means to violate such a bond.

That lack of understanding has caused more grief where the OT stories of Abba are concerned.

A heart where He alone has first place.
