I recently attended my sister-in-law's wedding. In Costa Rica, like many countries, a couple must be married by civil authorities. So in this wedding a judge first married them and after that ceromony was done, the pastor married them again.

What struck me was that the judge read to them from the federal marriage code which stated such things as the husband is legally bound to financially support the wife and they must live under the same roof and can only be seperated for reasons of health or work.

I started to ask myself if such concepts are outdated and if they exist in law in many countries.
