Gustave Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 What does the SDA Church officially say about St. Mark's commentary whereas he said Jesus declared all foods clean? Mark 7,14: And he called the people to him again, and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him.” And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) "Nothing" would include everything in this context. Saint Paul said the same thing to the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 10, 25: Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. (But if some one says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then out of consideration for the man who informed you, and for conscience’ sake— I mean his conscience, not yours—do not eat it.) Would a pagan unbeliever ONLY purchase Kosher foods from a meat market? Of course not! It also is unreasonable to claim that a pagan unbeliever would purchase only Kosher foods from a meat market that had been offered in sacrifice to pagan gods. Walking into a meat market today is no different than walking into one 2000 years ago other than the hygiene mandated by secular authorities. In other words what Paul is here telling Christians is that IF a pagan who worships Zeus happens to invite you to dinner DON'T worry about what it is that's being served to you - if the Pagan bought it at the meat market IT'S FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. The only caveat being if the pagan who invited you to dinner says whatever it was that's being served was offered in sacrifice to Zeus or any other false God. Just a question here, nothing more.
